I do not have experience with the brand mentioned, but I have experience with synthetic turf.

Re “stink”, I recommend Natures Miracle.

Re rough housing: dogs will occasionally catch/dislodge a staple, the product is a rug.

re heat: the turf absorbs heat, in LV, temps could be 120-140.

I live in Texas, not nearly as hot or dry as LV. My dog loves to sit and roll around in the cool grass. Then again right now he's basking on the hot concrete in full sun. But I like that he has a choice of hot and cool.

Have you considered simply mulching the yard? I get free mulch from a tree trimming company.

I hadn’t considered mulch. We attempted to grow grass, but between the heat, limited water, and the dogs, there isn’t much left of it. Most of what grew was weeds anyway. It looks awful, it’s a mess, and the dogs track in a ridiculous amount of dirt every time they go out; I’d like something clean and neat, that is virtually maintenance free. Also, the Nevada Water Authority will reimburse you $3/sq. Foot to replace your grass with “desert landscaping” (or other water saving materials). I know that won’t cover all the cost, but it will certainly help.

Could you do a combination of some areas “lawn” and others mulch? Will the company give you a sample chunk to put outside as you think about it?
