Help identifying issues with my Datura

Hi All,

I bought a Datura (devil's trumpet) and it was happy for a few weeks, but now it's looking like this. I don't know if these two issues are related, but it keeps getting covered all over in webs and also the leaves are turning yellow. It's in a very sunny spot so I have been watering it a lot. I also sprayed neem oil on it after the first time I removed the webs. It kept them away for about two weeks. I also sprayed in the evening so it didn't burn the leaves, but maybe that's still happening? I haven't seen the insects that are creating the webs.

Any help is appreciated. The blooms have been beautiful, but the leaves just keep getting worse!

look for spider mites on the back of the leaves .... though you wouldnt see their webs ... unless it was one heck of a problem ...

was it in full sun where you bought it??

no plant needs that much water.. water when it needs it .. insert finger and find out.. presuming its still in the pot ...

have you discussed this with the seller ???

Thanks, Ken! I took another look and I think you are definitely right about the spider mites. The plant was not in full sun where I bought it, but everything I have read about Datura says that more sun is better so I planted it in a sunny spot. I have not discussed this with the seller. That's a good idea. Any tips for stopping the spider mites?

To treat roses with spider mites it was recommended to spray the undersides of the leaves with water every three days for nine days. This was said to disrupt their breeding cycle. Also spraying the undersides of the leaves occasionally with a liquid sea weed solution was recommended. It is available online, big box stores and nurseries. I did both and they worked. Wishing you well. Your beautiful plant will recover.
