This company has some that are less steep.

The company referenced above sells the Bessler Disappearing Stair. My prior house had one of those installed when it was built in 1931 and it was comfortable to use. Ours did not have a handrail but otherwise appears to be identical to the models sold today.
My previous experience was with a fold down stair which required a ladder and muscles to unlatch and return to storage position. The disappearing stairs was a definite upgrade which required only a slight tug on the pull string to let it down and a small push to return it to locked position. Accessing the attic was a trivial matter for anyone of reasonable mobility. Despite being a secure and comfortable model, make no mistake, it feels more like a ladder than a stairway. The stairs are heavy duty enough to have one person at the top and another on the bottom to move something lengthy like a Christmas tree. The downside is you have to keep a large area at the top clear for storing the ladder.
