I do have the Thermoworks Thermapen and use it nearly every day. It is a bit pricey at $99 but is well worth it.

Started this morning through tomorrow night. Not impressed so far. Especially for kitchen and home. If something you have had your eye on and have been following prices, might find a much lower price. I have no needs at this time.

On the other hand, electronics like the echo dot for 18.99 I think is the best price I've seen. I think I paid 25 last cyber Monday. (as a stocking stuffer joke for DH but we actually love it). We can set multiple timers and daily/weekly timers. Add just 5 bucks for a smart plug.

Splurged on a thermapen 5-6 years ago for 99. Also use it daily. Best to also check the company websites directly to see if they offer a better deal before committing. I read that ThermoWorks was offering it for 79 but not the case I think.

There is a warning on the Thermoworks web page.

If you have the Thermo Pen, which I have and like, I would get this. I have it and don't use often, turkey, ham, or Boston butts, but it is fantastic.

No need to spend $99 for a Thermopen. I bought this one from ThermoPro which works equally well for $19. We needed one for the house in Cathedral City, and so I thought it would be worth trying this one out. I ended up keeping the new one in Los Angeles and brought the Thermopen to C.C. I checked the temperature for accuracy, partly by checking the pool water temperature.

I just bought a Lodge 12 inch cast iron skillet. $19.

I use a digital thermometer (different brand) anytime and every time I cook any kind of meat. And for other things too. There's no way I've found to carefully achieve the degree of doneness I want any other way. The internal temp of the item starting off is variable. Heat is variable. So time is variable. Temperature is exact.

Well, I am for what ever works. But???????????, also I kinda go for the brand name. Just like the thread on cream cheese, I would rather pay for the original than the, "I am sure it is just as good" knock off. If it works for you great! I just want the original.

I agree with brand names for most things to a point. I use digital thermometers a lot and I've found the ones I've had tend to get wonky or stop working after a few years. I've tried different ones up and down the price spectrum and have had similar experiences. They're not that expensive and I expect any one will need to be replaced and I'm okay with that.

Those who have purchased the pricier ones and have had better durability experiences than I did, well, I guess it was a bad luck factor for me. I'm still okay with replacing them.

I know what you mean about the quality of digital thermometers in general, but I've never had a problem with our Thermapens. Our Classic Thermapens were still working after years of use when we replaced them with MK4 Thermapens. We switched because it was annoying when a Thermapen would auto-shut off during a longer task. The MK4 will wake back up if you move it instead of having to close and open it. Also, my husband likes the auto-rotating display (though I have no problem reading the numbers when they are sideways). And it's nice for piece of mind that the model is waterproof. We also have one of their Chef Alarm probe thermometers and find that very reliable too.

I purchased a ThermoPro infrared laser thermometer for use with the pizza oven I ordered. I've received the thermometer but still waiting a few more weeks for the pizza oven to get here. I tested it on my grill, oven, and smoker and it seems to be very accurate even at 10' distance.

Those of us in our late fifties, not yet retired, have felt the wave the last 20 years of bad product. Good research and caution, we still get burned. Very few give good customer service, but those that do survive and get my dollars I will support like ThermoWorks. Did cringe when I purchased. So nice to use quality daily.

SurLaTable...at the rare visit check-out counter, I purchased a 10 dollar version of the same. Fine for the beach house...junk if it no longer works and no support if it fails. Disposables do not thrill me. I still get e-mails from SurLTable to review items that were back ordered, paid for, never received. They delete bad reviews. Two years now. So annoyed with time spent. Such bad customer service.

I stopped even going into SurLaTable when someone suggested that a product that I had been waiting to go on sale could be purchased immediately on the product's website. I waited then discovered the sale price at SurLaTable was the regular price at the manufacturer. Several products later with the same result and I said goodbye.

I looked today but could not find anything that was something that I wanted.

A word on Thermaworks: Yes, they warn against buying from Amazon or eBay, etc. But if you follow the Serious Eats link, they link to Thermaworks, NOT Amazon. And while the price in the article says $99 for the thermapen, when you actually click on it the 48 hour price is $74.24, which is a good price if you think thermapens live up to the hype. Which I don’t. I’m on my second, I do use it near daily and what can I say, they’re a digital thermometer. They’re accurate but 3 seconds is BS. Good but nothing special.

Now the Smoke, that I love. Use it in the oven more than my grill. Just the other day I suggested to my wife that we buy one for her parents for Christmas and she agreed. So than you Sushi, you just saved me 25 bucks.

Just ordered the Thermoworks pen on their site. So glad I saw this thread as I’ve been wanting to get one of these. Thanks!

I logged onto the thermoworks website ahead of the sale announcement yesterday. So yes, the Mk4 is 75 as well as the 'smoke'. We do need the 'smoke' but DH has a habit of leaving things outside. (Plexiglas-glass box?, zip-lock?)....I'll wait this one out. Half off I may have jumped.

I went for electronics at 50-60% off. Hard to resist. Our bedside twin clocks gave us a good dozen years of service. Both failed recently and same brand replacements are 60$ each, lol. Smart devices at 18-45$ is a no brainer. They do so much more.

I woke up in the middle of the night, when things move faster, and got a Prime Day deal on cheap kitchen utility scissors that come apart. They look useful. My current ones are really just paper scissors, and serve, but are really hard to clean.

I have an IR/probe thermometer with a store name. It seems accurate enough that I don't jump at the Thermopen sale (it might even be made by them), and I do use it, but I'm more likely to grab one of my old dial probes. :)
