shiplap and shower niche

Did you place a separator between the shiplap planks. I’m about to install mine and I see that if I don’t put something in the gap, the line it’s almost NOT visible. I got the nickel edge not the groove. Also, what did you use for the edges of the niche? It looks so uniform.
