do an under cabinet lighting fixture. there are at least 500 to choose from.

get the one w/the LED bulbs, and make sure it's in the 4000K range for the best, natural light.

some of them have adjustable temp settings for the bulbs.

while you're at it, get a new switch plate cover in white. that current yellow one is a bit worn.

@Beth H. : thanks for the ideas! How would you cover the hole in the tile? We aren't interested in redoing the tile right now. (And yes, I noticed the yellow switch even more in the photo as well as some other imperfections!!)

You can put a piece of trim over the hole - like a mini-crown molding. Keep it simple and it won't be noticed.

you could bring down the bottom shelf just a tiny bit in order to cover the hole in the tile, (or just trim out the bottom)
