Hi Irene, here is a pic from further back

Was thinking something like this for lighting

And a big picture with black frame to the left of the table and a hanging mirror at the end of table

Other side of the room - also needs help....

Love the lights you are looking at, you will be bringing in an industrial design vibe, lots of black, grey, white with a splash of colour, mustard or tan. Carry it into your living area

Are you able to change the rug? The very cool gray doesn’t work well with the floor and tables warm wood tones.

    Yes Sasha Dog! Good call!!

Thank you Irene!! I will try to replicate that somehow

I really like the light you suggested, but I’m not sure how it will work with the style of your floor, fireplace etc. They have a really cool vibe, the space will look more cohesive if you work with them.

    What would be your suggestion?

    Your ceramic stove is GORGEOUS!

    Thanks!

The pictures Irene posted with black chairs would be the way I would go, esp if you choose the light you've posted. Not sure if you're intent on keeping the benches, but chairs would be much more inviting for dining and would add a lot to your space - especially if you're entertaining adults and not just children (who love benches) ;-)

I like your overall ideas, but (1) I never like a mirror by a dining table -- who wants to watch themselves chew?? and (2) I think you need a color in the rug and some art that picks up the same color -- could even echo it with a single pillow on your couch.

I would carry the same shade of sofa to your dining wall. Add some decorative accents to the table like pampas grass in a vase or tribal gray and white vase. I would keep your mirror at the table. I don't see anything wrong with the rugs you just need something bold to compliment it.

    Hi Sam-

I would try to find a different place for your beverage refrigerator so that the table can be moved to the right.

Where it is now, I am very concerned that diners will burn themselves on the radiator, or if not actually burn themselves, get overheated from just being to close to it.

Also, with the over the table chandelier, you won't need the floor lamp that is next to the table.

Thanks olychick! We are looking into chairs. This is an outdoor table we pulled from our garden and we loved the benches but you are right, chairs are more inviting for those aged 12 and above ;)

Thanks acm! I love to watch myself chew! ;) rug and art sounds fab! Seem these rugs are very divisive. Bought them to stay neutral but for a previous home. I can see that they may or may not work.

Thanks Claire! Interesting thought! I'd like to give it a shot before i change the rugs

Hi loobab, yup, will move the lamp once a proper light is in place. The radiator is never on since the old white ceramic stove radiates so much heat

Looks like this now. Any thoughts, ideas, improvements? Thanks!

I like the black framed art. Since you said the radiator is never on, I would lower the art bit. I also like the cushions and throws on the benches, but not both. I would do one or the other. The mirror would make me crazy! I would be so afraid that it might fall and hurt someone. Is it just leaning or is it attached to the wall in some way? I think it would look better attached to the wall instead of resting on the table. I also think it would look better if the frame color offered more contrast to the wall. The other thing I would do is rework the position of the light fixture so the swag is not so apparent or move the table so no swag is needed.

I would put the rug in another room maybe and get a new one. The light looks like a lot of stings to me. Not sure it works. ( listening to the criticism is welcome lol) I would go with a lantern style long rectangular light. I’ll try to show a picture of what I mean.
I also don’t know if the painting goes 😬

As far as the living room:
Is that chair a piece of true couch?? Put it back together if it is lol. Push that rug back and the couch up! Maybe a bigger coffee table ?!

Your floors are absolutely beautiful btw!!!
Also want to add that there are two styles going on. An industrial look and a very classic farmy look. Can we try to stick to one. I just think that that’s what’s making this a difficult space to deal with. Lots of competition between the styles

This is what I was referring to

Or even this. Just think it’s a better match and less visual competition

I would wrap the wires a little bit more on the wood to make it higher because its too low.

they still have to wrap the cords because they are too long.

    @Larece Associates

I agree. I would redo with the cords going vertically from the ceiling but also reposition the pole and/or the lights so that the fixture does not hang so close to the table.

the position of the pole should be a bit higher yes I do agree on that but the cords can go either way as long as it doesn't go too far off.

I like your mirror idea but think a full length mirror would look cool.

Hey All, thanks for your suggestions! I like the idea of a full length mirror, the current one is just a placeholder because it reflects so nicely. Will try to rearrange the cords vertically and perhaps hang the light higher, though it's actually quite comfortable at the current hight.

The chair... you got it right! that part DOES belong to the couch and my husband INSISTS on the fact that the couch is too big with that part attached so he simply moved it into the middle of the room, as one does, naturally 🤪

Omgd hahaaaaa can you sneak it back together!! 😬😬😬

although impart of the sectional,I would place it on the side and have the chair angle from the sliding window
