The laminate can be dimensional in texture if you like (see below hand-scraped feature on laminate floor), the LVT cannot.

We think that’s what we’re trying to avoid. To us the that look is too rustic. I should have added that this is an older home with walnut stain woodwork. We found a LVT that is a match to our existing hardwood in the entry way. One salesperson said the LVT scratches easily. Opinions?

Check the specs on the LVT flooring. It can scratch, some more than others. Check the warranty. Maybe you want a floor that is approved for commercial use just to be safe.

A friend has beautiful wood-look vinyl flooring throughout her house. It’s beautiful but I wonder how it will affect resale. The previous owner of our home did our ground level den in awful, cheap wood-look thin vinyl floor that I would love to replace with a better product. The cost to the previous owner for this 20x15 room was $4900 seven years ago. Be careful and choose wisely!

I personally find the “hand-scraped” look phony. Flat wood planks, whether high quality vinyl or laminate, look more normal, and the first two photos are much more attractive. Flooring does not have to match your wood furniture pieces, but I would consider how they work together.

Yes, phony is a good description. Sonja, as far as resale, we’re not that concerned. We want something we can live with. First photo flooring looks good with dining room furniture which is cherry. As of now, family room has what wife refers to as Early American garage sale (a mix of antiques and refurbished pieces), sage green sofa, love seat and ottoman. All will be replace in near the near future. Want to get flooring first.
