You may need to replace battery in your Dyson stick vacuum cleaner. Battery will last longer if you wait until next day after using to plug into the charger according to a Dyson representative. I made this mistake with my Dyson & had to replace the battery.

I use this for daily quick hard floor cleanup and for asking kids to help. It's light and easy for them to handle. It picks up dog hair really well. Basically it's a dust buster on a stick.

But for weekly vacuuming, I use an Oreck regular stand-up vacuum.

I have a Dyson V11 for about a year now and have been happy with it. I got it on QVC when they had a sale for like $200 off. I've heard that the new LG CordZero A9 is very good, and it has a removable battery if that's a concern of yours.

The newer Dyson models (e.g. V11) are night and day improvements over their older models (e.g. V6) which already were quite good when they came out.

I have owned the Dyson V6, V8 and now the V11 cordless vacuum. I loved the V8 and the V11 is even better. If you just need it for quick clean ups and not deep cleaning on rugs, you can get by with a V8. I believe Costco had them this weekend for $299. The only issue I had with my V8 was that the battery stopped holding a charge just before the two year warranty ran out. Dyson sent me a replacement battery free of charge. The V11 is expensive but I've had it over a year and it has performed flawlessly. My house is mainly wood floors with area rugs so I can set it to "Auto" and it adjusts the suction as I move the machine from floors to rugs. My master bedroom is carpeted and it really deep cleans when I set it to Boost.

Also, if you have owned any Dyson products before, you can usually call up the company and they'll give you an extra discount. That's useful for newer products that might not go on sale yet. And for everything else, they price match and then still throw in about $100 of tools.

That's a good point M. I reached out on their site when QVC had the Dyson V11 for $200 less. Dyson did price-match and let me choose a tool set for free and registered the warranty for me. It was a much better deal in the end.

Consumer Reports has ratings of cordless and corded stick vacuums (http://www.consumerreports.org - $10/month digital). The following warning appears at the top of the cordless ratings:

"Consumer Reports does not currently recommend any cordless stick vacuums because of the generally high incidence of problems reported by our members." followed by an explanation.

The first Dyson that we ever bought was an upright model. We were quite happy with it --until we had kids. We soon discovered that with toddlers you need to vacuum various messes several times a day.

That's when we bought the first V6. So much more convenient -- and in the end, having a vacuum that gets used is infinitely better than the best vacuum that stays in the closet.

Over the years, we added two additional Dyson wands for different parts of the house. These upgraded models are so close in performance to traditional floor vacuums, we honestly haven't used the upright vacuum in a few years now.

Of course, we mostly have tile and hardwood floors which occasionally get wet cleaned, we don't have pets, and we never wear shoes indoors. So, our expectations for our vacuums aren't necessarily the same as in other households.

I've had a Dyson V8 for about a year - very happy with it - handles lots of cat hair extremely well on carpet, rugs and hard surfaces. I've never tried any other brand of stick but I've had plenty of other vacuums of all types, including Miele, and nothing compares with the Dyson stick for ease of use and effective cleaning.

I just bought a Dyson V11 Torque and we LOVE it. I had a corded Shark vac before this so just going cordless has been amazing. But I've really been impressed with the V11 so far. I've had it since August.

Glad you were able to fix it with a new battery and not have to spend money on a new vacuum.
