This is a very difficult begonia (for me) to grow. It is more a succulent than a rain forest begonia. I try to keep mine on the dry side (this is my 3rd attempt). We've had a lot of rain this summer so I don't even know if it is still alive.

So, I might put this one in a bit more sun than the others, I am also thinking that I might mix some succulent mix with the potting soil so it is a bit more free draining. If it gets to dry I can always add some cane straw on top for a while.

I figure I will treat it half like a succulent and half like a begonia. It's been very neglected and it's still alive, so I will probably kill it with too much kindness. I will watch it carefully though. If it starts looking good I will post you a photo in a few months time on this thread.

I think B. venosa comes from the dry parts of Brazil so it lives in a hot and arid environment. I always thought Brazil was hot and steamy in the past but I was wrong.

Thank you for the links. I looked at both of these, and got something out of them. I also looked at the american begonia website, and had a read there too.

I will probably put it out the side in full sun, after I repot it. My Sophie Cecile lives out there. So it is probably the best place for it.

I potted up this plant yesterday. I used half potting mix, half orchid mix and perlite. I didn't have any succulent mix on hand, so I thought this will do.

I put it out the side with the Sophie Cecile, so it gets a bit more sun. I will keep my eye on it, to see that it doesn't go downhill as I would hate to lose it.

When it gets big enough and is going well, I will try to propagate it. See how I go.

If its going fine in six months, I will put another photo on this thread for you.
