Cattail Creek Gardens

Have to share a success story with you fellow rose lovers... After purchasing close to 40 new bands from a variety of mail order nurseries this season -yikes!- I received my last and final order from Cattail Creek Gardens and was blown away by the quality of the plant and packaging. Although it was super pricey to ship to Maryland, I’m not mad considering I’ve paid similar prices for much less. That, and I managed to find a huge specimen of DA’s Rose Marie, which is a white sport of Heritage and nearly impossible to find. Can’t say enough good things about this place and I wanted to spread the word.

Wish I would have gotten a photo of the intact packaging but hopefully you can see the size of the plant. It’s huge!

Disclaimer - I forgot to add that their potted varieties are on-par with Heirloom prices. It's definitely more pricey than purchasing directly from DA or other growers.

What a big healthy plant. I've never heard of Rose Marie, but from what I see on the tag, she is a beauty. I would love to see your photos when she gets growing. Where is Cattail Creek Gardens located? I guess I'd better check them out. Thanks for posting. Diane

roseek, It’s definitely on the pricey side. I would never suggest making large orders (too much!) but since we’re in an area that doesn’t have nurseries that sell anything other than Drift or Knockouts, I felt I was paying more for a mature plant rather than a tiny band for which I’d pay $25-$30. Or at least, that’s what I’ve told myself. Apologies though, I should have noted that!

Diane, would be happy to do so! The few entires I’ve seen on HMF are gorgeous. It looks like Reagan also carries this as a bare root but it’s sold out as of now. I believe Cattail is located in Virginia. I'm a little shocked by how expensive shipping was but they got to us within a day and arrived in a huge box. I'm not sure if that's their flat rate or if they charge based on zip code. Hopefully not, however, since I can't imagine what the fee would be to ship across CONUS.

They state right on the rose pages the $21 is the "fixed shipping cost".

I was very tempted to order William Morris from them , and I wish I had bc it’s not on their site anymore ! Sometimes when you really want something you have to go for it. I think of gas money I would have spent or just what the heck get the rose and enjoy it!

I hope you love your rose ! I saw it in person here in California and it’s so pretty.

Jen, I don’t know if it’s in stock or not but Hummingbird Roses lists it

I think, in my case, I've definitely gotten what I've paid for. I'd never ordered from Heirloom (because of the cost!) but this year I ordered two for fall planting. Holy cow - was I/am I impressed! They've already bloomed more (despite being just in the ground), than some I planted in the Spring and last fall! So yikes they were pricey but wow they are gorgeous. And, amazingly, Koko Loko has many buds yet to open (despite being sat on by my 60 lb dog!).

lilyfinch outsteelers mentioned it, but I wanted to say that Hummingbird has it....

Thank you !! I had no idea !! I’ll be checking that out then . Glad I mentioned it !

Heirloom is having a sale now , most roses are 30ish dollars . If you wait for the sale it’s worth it . I don’t have many choices near me within a short drive, I have two small children so the days of nursery hopping are gone for now unfortunately. I don’t mind paying a little more for what I want , if it saves me time gas and goldfish cracker bribes :)

boxerlover - your dog SAT on your rose bush!! LOL...Did the thorns get him to get off quickly? Silly dog. :)

Wow!! That's a beautiful potted rose!! And naturally it costs a lot to ship such a big rose! Well done!

I found a webpage for Catttail Creek on a marketplace-type site, but it says "The store is closed for maintenance". No idea how long it's been down.
