live edge wood slabs

Purchased some 2x16x8’ live edge slabs for countertops I have no experience working with slabs. The goal is to keep it flat and true for many years to come. Maybe cleats on the underside and fastened to island carcass?

Have the slabs been dried, either air-dried or kiln-dried? A 16" wide board will move with changes in humidity. You may want to use attachment devices like used on furniture tops: either the figure 8 fasteners or the zee shaped brackets that fit in a slot. I used the zee fasteners when I put an 18" wood top my kitchen island.

My countertop will be 27”wide,I am not sure what I will do with the joinery, biscuit, dowel or T&G.i have heard many a horror story of slabs twisting and cupping over the years and I don’t want to be one of them. Thanks for the figure 8 and zee, I didn’t know they even existed
