we opened a wall a little over 8 ft. from kitchen to livingroom. It is a total wreck right now because the kitchen floor is half tore. pay no attention to rug in kitchen. I always wanted an island but it is only 8 ft. from wall that used to be there and sink,and I have the peninsula. on other end of cabinets comes out 5 ft.
