Heliopsis helianthoides?

The second picture is accurate about how shiny these leaves are. The Heliopsis helianthoides I have elsewhere where I grow it but they have much duller leaves. Thanks for the help though Jay. I wish it was more of it, but I don't think so.

What about Eupatorium serotinum?

Is it likely I wouldn't get flowers the first year? This showed up in various sunny spots. An argument in favor of a match is that when I compared this to the Eupatorium serotinum I have, both have reddish color in some of the stems.

For people who might be curious Eupatorium serotinum is a very good bee plant for me once it flowers late in the season and I like how it looks. It's a much taller plant than the one foot the mystery plant.

I think I'll leave some of them and see if they flower next year unless I hear that no flowers this year means not a match.

Does it have spindly stems attached to a loong, thickmwhite root, which begins several inches below the soil? And blue bell shaped flowers? If so, it's evil. Campanula Ranunculoides. Almost imposdible to get rid of. Don't let it flower, regardless of how pretty the flowers are.

Your pic looked to me like this evil weed.

Thanks Sigrid. Jay's suggestion of Eupatorium serotinum ended up being correct. Later in the season I was able to tell when it started lookeing like the plant I had in a different bed.
