Right off the bat…that is one huge t v which is dwarfing the fireplace. Paint the wall a dark accent color and add some fabric to the all the windows.

Pull the sectional away from the windows about two feet , add a rug, move the ottoman out and add a chair or two.

Assfor storage: look into the IKEA PAX systems. For short money, there is nothing an IKEA designer can’t figure out for your space. Take photos and measurements and a truck when you go.

I love the accent wall idea! That looks really good in the photo and very similar to our house.

My only issue with moving the sectional away from the wall is that impedes access to our kitchen (the first photo was taken from the kitchen) so when it’s moved over more there’s less space to walk between the couch and the banister/wall that separates the kitchen from the living room.

That is a tough layout. I had one very similar in my previous home. One thing that changed my feelings of the space a lot was to get a smaller TV that didn’t extend beyond the width of the fireplace. It was a huge improvement for me. Also, it wasn’t black. The frame was a light silver and it seemed so much lighter on the space.

We also gave up on decor on the FP. You can’t have both. We did get a media console that was slightly higher than the window and it didn’t bother me at all. Gave me a place to add some decor and we just didn’t bother fussing with that window. Do you actually get a lot of light from the windows beside the TV?

Can you take a pic with your back to the TV/FP?

Sure I can take a pic a bit later and post it. We do get a lot of light from those windows but with the large windows to the left I’m not sure it honestly makes a huge difference. I toyed with the idea of seeing what it would take to have them removed and dry walled but figured it’s probably a cost I can’t manage.

As for the tv — we had a smaller one. That’s fairly new but I love the screen size so sticking with it either way

Yes, that’s why I asked. When I saw pictures of other homes in my neighborhood I realized I could have went without the windows on one wall and it would have still been a light filled room. Anyway, they’re there so see how you can work around them. If you would consider a console to the side of the FP, put your two blue tables together under one of the windows and see how that feels.

You could also look into moving the cable wiring to the side and then bring the TV down closer to the mantle.

I'm pretty sure you can hack an Ikea item to achieve this if you don't want to go the custom route.

Until you can decide what you want or can do; I would consider separating sofa. Move end piece to corner where small cabinet is now. Center remainder of sofa in front of window. Drape items in wicker basket over arms of sofa and end piece in corner. Move basket over by darker turquoise shelf for toys, backpacks, etc. Slide dog bowls under cabinet until find another place for them. The small cabinet can go at end of sofa. Do a grouping of Halloween items. (Pumpkins on entry railing, skulls on webbing from turquoise chest on FP. Move tray from turquoise cabinet to small cabinet for key, mail, etc.

Move candle holders to wall going up stairs.

I would move the couch away from the wall but closer up to the fireplace add a rug and new coffee table with your tray on that table lol. New sheer solid white curtains I would repaint a blue on all the walls but the fireplace and do moldings on the entire fireplace wall I’d remove everything else from the room I think. As far as storage if you NEED in that room specifically I would do some simple white built ins on the right small walls tons of potential here and really cute space. You guys are not far off!!! Exited to see what u do!! ☺️

HU-ABOVE is correct when saying you can move the sectional up closer to fireplace corner to give you move space. Tuck a floor lamp in that corner.

I think when you’re shopping you should look at larger items to bring the space together. So if you go with the idea to pull the sectional in and add a floor lamp, think of a taller basket for blankets on the other side. Or even a tall plant

totally get the big tv, but a decorated mantel gives you a place to add homey touches. you can get both by moving the TV to an easel. (patch work is not too bad or just hang art! ) love the suggestions to move the sectional in towards the fp and add a floor lamp and drapes.

The TV is 75 inches so I don’t think an easel will work...

How easy would it be to move the thermostat on the small wall? (Where the longer blue cabinet is now) That would open up some space where we could put a shelf or something

What about a longer table/console/sideboard there? Are you wanting a shelf to store specific things you already have or just as an idea for decor? If you don’t need a shelf I don’t think you need to move the thermostat
