You don't say where you live....but I have twice planted a privit hedge by simply sticking second year twigs into the ground in the very early spring and watering well.
And friend ringed his yard with forsythia with cuttings from my bush.
The cheapest hedge is from do it yourself cuttings.

Why would the OP complain about the high price in the US if they were in the U.K? btw laurel is also a stick cuttings in the ground plant. Here at least.

Sorry, I am in the US! But yeah, why would I complain if I was in the UK :) lol. I am in zone 6a/7.

how long did it take to grow your hedge from such little cuttings?

I lIke the cherry English laurel but open to options.

I am looking for a privacy hedge as soon as possible , preferably growing close to 6 ft quickly so I can’t see the neighbors.

20' is not very long. You can purchase 4-5' Green Giant Arborvitae at Costco, quite reasonably. Planted in a staggered fashion (not a straight line), they'll rapidly form a dense, tall privacy line. You can trim them, as needed (they grow 3' each year). They are deer resistant, pose no shallow root problems, and are also a good sound/snow barrier. You'll find a great deal of info. online, re: planting distance between each.
