Ken, It had always been juicy. Just sort of tasteless -- not much tang, flavor or sweetness. And I was surprised that leaving it on the tree for a few more weeks made a big difference. It actually sweetened up with the cooler weather. Armstrong is fine for flavor. Now, I haven't tasted all the mandarins yet, but last year it was wonderful. My wife and I both enjoyed them. This year, we'll see if leaving them on the tree will improve them -- especially on such a small tree. But I'm hopeful. A lot depends on the growing season too.

I have Owari, Xie Shan, Murcott, Shiranui, Keraji, Clem-Yuz, Mandarinquat, Shasta Gold, and Kishu. Not many of these have borne fruit for me yet, or every season, so stay tuned.

Clem-Yuz bore for the first time last season. It was good when left hanging until Dec/Jan. You'd like that one if you like tang.

I think a lot of people taste a young mandarin and if they're bad, they think it's a poor variety. But really, mandarins need to get some size to them first.
