bedroom for a young man

I’ve volunteered to redo this bedroom for a charity that supports young men who have aged out of foster care. Any ideas on what to do for inexpensive window treatments for these 3 windows?
We think we will put a desk underneath the windows.
We will probably paint the ceiling white and paint the walls a neutral color. It’s all mint green now. Will get an area rug to go over the dark green carpet. Plz advise any thoughts. Thank you.

Inside mount roller shades are probably your best bet. See if you can find a site like Smith and Noble or The Shade Store and find either a solid color or one that has a ticking stripe.

I wouldn’t bother painting the ceiling white, paint everything in a nice neutral color like BM classic gray. It will really brighten the room up and it goes with pretty much everything.

Low sheen or matte finish... it will hide all the imperfections.

Matte finish on the walls and flat on the ceiling. I think roller shades are a good option. You could pair them with white café curtains on tension rods.

I know people here are telling you to kind of "neutral" it out and go inexpensive with roller shades, etc. because the house or building this room is in is probably not fancy, and why put fancy things in an ordinary building (I know, it would look out of place). But I just want to say one thing. This room is for a young man who has aged out of the foster system, which means he has not been adopted or gotten back with his biological family. Think how he feels about that situation. He probably hasn't had anything joyous in his life. Please try to make this room a place where anyone, including yourself, would want to spend time in. Neutrals in paint, but go a bit glam in accessories.

    Ceiling fan with lights!

It's actually a pretty cool room.

Very nice! However, I don't care for the shiny drapes; a little feminine feeling. How about bright white roller shades with a border of navy blue?

Thank you for your input. The curtains are not shiny. Not sure why it appeared that way in the photo.
The little money we have left has to go towards a dresser that finish the room.

Really great job! I’m sure you had to be a good shopper with limited funds- and you did it! So happy for the young man.

    Hi There,
    More painting advise needed.

please advise thoughts on what color and type of paint to use for the stairwell (walls and floor/steps) for this house.
You may recall, this is a house I’m working on that will provide housing for a few young men who have aged out of foster care.
right now the walls are pink, floor is light blue.

Walls should stay light. I love what you did with the bedroom. Is this the stairwell leading to that room? I would do the same or lighter beige on the walls and navy for the floor.

Yes, that is the stairwell leading to that room. I used SW incredible white in their living room so may just use that for stair walls. thank you
