I hit it with some paste wax first. Won't hurt it any worse and may make it go away. At least acceptably.

It looks like you melted the poly. I would sand lightly and apply a coat of poly to that area, brushing in the direction of the grain. Feather out the edges with water or mineral spirits soaked rag depending on weather you have oil or water based poly. It won’t be perfect.

Thanks so much. Normally would have brought Bag down to basement but left the supplies for the hubby to look over. Thanks I get for being a personal shopper. house is disaster while finishing basement. running out of room in our constructions zone. The strange thing the container Cap is not loose at all. but when it tips over It is leaking.

By the looks of it (I can't see depth with the photo) it looks like a white plastic bag was melted (or some of the white transferred) into the finish.
