They are not coming from the cooktop, skylight, or quartz. If you didn’t also totally clean out the cabinets, by vacuuming and washing out, there are still insect eggs hatching and any new food is in danger of being infested. Weevils mainly feed on grains, but can infest any type of dry stored food. Rice, beans, flour, pasta, you name it. All food needs to go into the freezer for 48 hours while you vacuum and clean the kitchen.

Thanks so much for getting back to me. We’ve cleaned and hoovered the kitchen several times and all food is in air tight containers. Hopefully this is maybe the babies hatching and they will soon go away. It’s really unpleasant.

We got a brand new kitchen put in a year ago when we were renovating the house. Cabinets made from wood. We got other items of furniture made from same material and nothing appear from it. So strange. Have literally caught another 10 in last hour.

What kind of wood, sourced from where? If the wood is properly treated, insects shouldn’t survive. But I have personally purchased RTA furniture that was assembled and in my home unscathed, and wood weevils bored out of there many months later. Per google, my experience was not unique.

Have you actually identified the insect? There’s a big difference in weevils and wood beetles and fungus gnats. Do you have a picture?

That's not a weevil...looks more like an ant. Does it have wings? Do they fly?

I don’t know if they fly or have wings. They just seem to randomly appear which is starting to make me think they can fly. But why the kitchen (we’ve an open plan living kitchen dining etc) so if they could fly why cant we see them anywhere else? Its so confusing. Appreciate your reply

An undermounted kitchen sink attached with clips or blocking can leak, creating perfect dark wet bug habitat. I've seen it several times.

We used to get fruit flies once or twice a year...it was so annoying. My husband now boils water when we make coffee in the morning....he'll pour the remaining boiling water down the kitchen sink drain a few times a week. We haven't had them since. There are also traps you can buy or make! But we have found that pouring boiling water down the drain a couple of times a week really helps!

We also had Meal Moths once due to dry cat food...so best to keep dry pet food in a tupperware type container.
