IMO nothing there it is a crowded space already. Maybe a narrow shelf and then just a nice piece of art.There is a lot going on in the LR so keep what ever you do there very simple.

It serves as the entryway too so I’m trying to make it a functional space that also draws the eye. thoughts?

When you say functional. what function? I would just put art on the wall. What is behind the sectional?

First of all I’d pull all the furniture a little further back , away from the entrance. I’d add a mirror and a very very simple clean line console. Possibly those rounded waterfallish type.

Visually I do like it better without anything on that wall. I think it would look best if you just hang some art on that wall. Do you need a cabinet?

Do you absolutely need storage in this area? I agree with others, hang a good looking piece of art and call it a day.

Here’s a picture from the front door. We cant really move the furniture further away from the door without encroaching on the kitchen. We do not have a formal dining space. There is nothing behind the couch currently.

This is the console I was considering. I’d like to put a pouf under it for someone to sit down and put on their shoes before leaving, and also potentially a basket for shoes too.

As to function: What climate do you live in? Do you need an umbrella stand, place for wet boots, a coat closet? Here in the midwest we need all of these things in our guest entrance. For sure, I expect that you need a flat surface for visitors to deposit purses, briefcases, or laptops.

That’s a nice looking console it might be doable if you keep accessories to a minimum. Forgot to say before love your coffee table, rug and couch.

I think the room would feel more open and welcoming if you turned the sofa so a back of it is to the kitchen and put the chairs opposite the kitchen. Walking in to be greeted by both backs of the sofa is a bit off-putting! Instead of a credenza, hang art on the wall in question, and use a skinny sofa table behind the sectional to add interest to the exposed back of it while allowing room for the traffic path..

what do you have going on in the space behind the couch and the door wall with that window on it? Can you use that space for putting on shoes/shoe storage etc?

To replace that grey console, I think something slim, simple and sleek would look better. That grey console is way too busy.

The grey console is already gone ✔️ And the door with the window is the laundry room down a short hall way - the way both doors open does not currently allow for storage in the space.

I didn’t think of putting the back of the couch to the kitchen - we can try that. I always just felt more included while cooking in the living room if everyone’s backs weren’t to me while they sat on the couch. Even though the chairs are there, most people sit on the couch.
