Electrical Panel Horror

I have an electrical panel in the entry of a new condo. It's the very first thing you see when you walk in the door. It's huge and not in a place where I can hang anything over it. I've thought about actually installing a false mirrored wall but I can't figure out how to build it and make it easy to remove. Every inch counts. Can someone help me, please!!! This is making my head explode.

LOL - that's not a horror! It's just an inconvenience.

They aren't even finished yet, walk around and find something else to obsess about.

You aren't supposed to obstruct an electrical panel. Not only is it a NFPA rule, but I'd bet big money it's also a building rule.

In my area, safety precludes covering up an electrical service panel.

I'm sure there'll be an access panel that's painted the same colour as your walls. You won't be looking at the actual panel and breakers. It'll blend in and won't be a big deal.

Wait to see how you feel once it's done.

Jasmine Roth did a wall heater cover up w/this blue cabinet and grid. (she made the right side a shelf for a bar)

you could probably do something like that for that wall to conceal the panel

or they sell these art frame things that hide the panels on the wall

there are literally hundreds of ideas

Beth--I can't hang anything over it. It's in a location where that's impossible.

I hate those panels too. How about a small 3 panel screen to set in front of this eye sore.

can’t see entire entry but It might be as simple as placing a “leaner mirror”. A tall mirror that is framed & simply leans agains the wall. Need panel access? simply move the mirror aside. Or, a very tall narrow silk tree.

I would get them to move that thermostat over around 3" too, if possible, which it is, just takes wires. You could also hang a light there to disguise it too. Lots of possibilities.

    Narrow floor based hall tree.

if it's on a wall, then why can't you hang something over it?

Beth h. It's in the very very corner. I think it would look very strange to hang anything right up next to a corner. Off-center, if you will.

Flo- Thank you for your help You get it!

Paint it out the same color as the wall and then put something very eye catching on the adjacent wall to distract you from it. It really will look smaller than what you are looking at now because it is unfinished.

    It will be ok

You can put something on the wall that covers the entire thing, and other parts of the wall so that it's centered. maybe hang something on the other side so that it looks intentional.

I'm sure there is something you can put on the wall(s) to camouflage the box!

A mirror? two mirrors? some type of shelving that wraps around the other side but joins the two looks?

    just wait until it's finished.

What I don't like is where they placed your thermostat. see if you can have that moved. You certainly won't be able to hang anything over the panel if that thermostat stays in that position. It will be in the way.

I mean, once the other wall is done, the thermostat is going to be directly in the corner, almost flush w/the other wall. How are you supposed to read it or change anything? you'll have to practically squish yourself against the other wall and squat down to read the damn thing.

Have them move it down to the far left near the door molding. if it's a little lower, it's fine. what you don't want is it at picture hanging level, in the middle of a wall. Most are put right next to a doorway, but never in a corner like that! or see if they can locate it on the outer side where that cardboard is.

(BTW, who is the builder of this condo that couldn't locate this panel in a better spot? )

    three ideas:

    1. decorative wall paneling in the foyer, custom designed to specifically fit this spot. designed to hide the door but still be easy to open. something so custom might be pricey (unless you can DIY).

    2. a full flat door that covers that entire spot top to bottom with a hidden hinge. you open the entire "wall" to get to the box, but when it's closed, it just looks like a wall.

    3. ask them to use the flattest electrical panel possible (that doesn't curve out or anything) then install wallpaper with a busy pattern. very carefully trim around the edges of the panel door. a busy pattern will make the edges less noticeable.

or another example of a decorative wall panel. this one was designed to hide a TV. for your spot, you'd need a smaller grid of panels to achieve symmetry, but hopefully this gives an idea.

I think you need to wait until the work is done and then come back with a picture from the front door entry showing that wall.

Also a pic that shows what it looks like from other angles...not just close-ups facing it
