One that I like against big, bold hostas is Amsonia hubrictii. The contrast in leaf shape is great with the big hosta in front. Massive, blue leaved varieties seem to work best. The Amsonia tends to open into a wide, soft spray and turns a brilliant gold in the fall. My hostas are shot this time of year due to cold, so no pic.

I also like red compliments - heuchera/tiarella/heucherella in the foreground with purple smoke-bush in the back. I have a white-margined hosta in this set-up, but imagine that yellow and blue would be equally complimented.

I love that too djacob! It's so pretty and it has a flow to it that is watery.

Heucheras are always a nice companion.

For ground cover, some varieties of ajuga are nice with hostas.

I like pots with annuals and tender perennials sitting near or among my hostas..I think the big leaves of elephant ears look great with hostas..
