It can be anywhere there is an appropriate food source. Native to Asia, it seems to be overly fond of ericaceous plants like Vacciniums and ericas and rosaceous trees and shrubs....and holly. It is apparently a serious pest of cranberries and is present in WI, MA, and ME to the extent necessary to have extension service publications addressing its control.

How have you determined, out of the many Tortrix moths, that yours is the Holly Bud?

I'm not sure exactly what insect is eating them- I was hoping to eliminate the Bud Moth hoping it was not in the state/climate. yet... I'm looking at all of the possible insects that eat Holly leaves so I know how to keep them alive and well, as they are young trees.
