Strip removal is not a big deal.

The Installation Instructions (page 16) of LG gas ranges such as LSG4511ST and LSG4513ST state that a countertop bridge across the back of the range is expected and that a filler kit included with the range must be used if there is no bridge:

"If the counter does not bridge the opening at the rear wall the rear filler kit, that is provided with the slide in range, will be needed.

"If the countertop depth is less than 24", the control panel will not sit flush with the countertop."

You can take this opportunity to consider an induction range slide-in like one from Frigidaire or Bosch. AJ Madison has listings.

Thanks dan1888 for the suggestion, but I still prefer a gas range.
