extra "things" on a plant

Today I harvested the rhizomes of my two ginger plants. Both were started at same time, and from the same parent rhizome. On one plant, in each of seven of the many long thick roots, far from the rhizomes, there is a small in-line “radish” / “rutabaga”.

It is my understanding that they are feeder root/bulbs. I found some on mine a few years ago, but found very little online to explain their purpose.

I planted two of them, will report if ever anything emerges. In the meantime, we keep this thread awaitng more information.

Those are "food storage" for the main ginger root. Some type of gingers seem to have these. I havent got any to grow on their own.

I take this opportunity to ask you about the leaves. By November last year they had been browning for quite a while, indicating rhizomes's readiness for harvesting. Leaves now, November, are barely starting to discolor. Can rhizomes nonetheless be sufficiently mature?
