What do pomelo taste like?

I'm thinking about adding a pomelo to my collection, just curious how do they taste, and how do they do in containers inside?

Like an acid-less grapefruit. Maybe less juicy. Lots of rag and fibrous septums.

I suppose you could make juice out of just about any citrus, except maybe citrons. It might be more difficult than juicing an orange though, due to all the septums and the thick peel.

I grew a pomelo tree from a store-bought fruit. It over winters decently indoors (better than some other Citrus in my opinion), and the plant itself is not thorny in the least. As said above, the fruit are much less tart than a grapefruit but the peel is absurdly thick.

    "What do pomelo taste like?"

It's hard to describe. The aroma is a little bit like grapefruit, but different. They are more similar to grapefruit than any other citrus fruit you have tried.

It is kind of like grapefruit, but more of a "clean" smell, less sewer or sulfurous. More of a floral aroma as well.

Maybe even a little less sweet than grapefruit. Imagine grapefruit but being less orange-like.

If you like both pomelos and grapefruits, one variety you will really like is Oro Blanco.

Haven't you ever seen pomelos being sold in your supermarket? (They can be seasonal, but pricey)

Never seen one ever. I do have some fresh grafts of oro blanco that are about 2 weeks old and am hoping they take. I'll find out in a week or so when I uncover them to

Also the fruit segments inside a pomelo are a little more firm and less juicy than the segments inside a grapefruit. If you open one up, it would not be too difficult to separate all the individual segments intact.

This might be totally off, but the aroma of pomelo is a little bit more "gardenia" flower like than grapefruit.

Have you smelled citronella candles? That might also give you a better idea of what pomelo smells like.

The aroma of grapefruit is a little bit more of a juicy sweet edible smell. Pomelo leans more on the green woody aromatic side of grapefruit.

Pomelo has much less of the characteristic "grapefruit" smell, but it does have some of it.

I love Pomelo and they're one of my top favorite fruits. The ones I've bought have the grapefruit flavor without the sour or bitter taste. In fact the ones I've had were mild enough to eat without any sugar, unlike most grapefruit. I wish I knew the variety these were. I realize this is an old thread, but I'm hoping your grafts did well.
