Is this an actual working FP ? I have no idea why a raised hearth on a MCM FP if that is a wood burning FP you need the hearth anything else no hearth. I hope the sample on the floor is not the color you plan for the FP. Having some clue as to your style and the new mantel would be helpful too.

Paint the brick first so you can see what you’re trying to match with. Do you plan to whitewash with some brick showing through or full paint coverage? Either way, do that so you can get a feel for the look.

Patricia, that is a piece of cardboard on the floor. And yes it is a working fireplace, it is a gas ventless. I am in the middle of projects. And what is a MCM FP? I’m open to suggestions for style . Ty

Is that tape marking the hearth you're imagining? I think a full length stone hearth (same color as the hearth that's there now) would be fabulous. It adds seating or shelf space. The firebox is so small compared to the size of the brick. I think it would ground it a bit better. But as someone else mentioned, it also depends on what the new mantle is.

A M I was thinking of doing approx 7 foot hearth and yes use it for seating. Should I paint the brick white ? That’s my first choice. I’m thinking of going with this mantle. Just haven’t chosen a stain yet.
