More awkward than the lighting is the TV placement. As for the lighting what is awkward about it / It is very dated but the awkwardness needs explaining.

Where would you suggest the tv go? The layout of the room is not great so felt there wasn’t any other option.

The height of the tv is the issue it should be much closer to eye level when seated. but I see there is light switches there. maybe in front of the stairwell?

Your late 70's/80 lighting is par for the course one to light up the stairwell one to light up the fireplace. Replace the 3 light track with a single "monopoint" adjustable light. Replace the stairwell light with a flush mount, shallow and non-dispript. Or an adjustable track like fixtures can be layed in any direction and shape.
