recessed lighting

Hi all - I’m having recessed lighting installed in 2 long hallways and I need advice on placement. currently at the front of each hallway I have a light fixture. my question is do I leave the current fixtures and add the recessed lighting down the hallway or do all recessed lighting and remove the current fixtures? also at the end of the downstairs hallway I was thinking maybe 2 smaller Recessed lights above that table. this is the first step in a bigger Reno of both hallways as I am planning to paint wallpaper and add some sort of runners eventually. I have attached pics. Upstairs hallway is very dark!!

IMO the lighting you have in the 2nd pic is pretty useless as lighting I do not know where the drum shade is . Do not get larger than 4” pots and use all LEDs in 4000K to light up all tose areas. If you take pics from further back to show the whole area i can maybe help a bit more.I would make the light eyeball type since you seem to have a lot of art it would be nice to light it.

I like having a big light at the entrance of a house always. Are you up for a change ? Do you live the current one? - it’s totally fine and nice. But I think it can be even more wow! Anyways the upstairs fixture send out of place and unnecessary. Can lights there is probably a better option and for downstairs I’d keep the entry light. Is it evenly centered by the door? If not possibly move it over once you got the lighting guys over. Then add cans all along he hall

We do not like the entry light fixture and I agree with changing it out but keeping a light fixture there rather than removing it. i am on the fence about the upstairs but I think it could be more coherent to remove that light fixture and go all recessed. Thank you!!!
