Thanks! - I am so ignorant about modern roses. There is a fabulous pic on HMF of a bush of JC which has blooms of lemon yellow, lighter yellow, and white, so I presume it fades to white eventually - all three colors on the bush are lovely.

oursteelers - your view will be fabulous when the roses get bigger - I love the rose climbing structure, and the fence. Meanwhile, the best thing in your pic is of course the lovely little girl and her patient canine babysitter!

I don't think I've ever taken photos through the windows myself but a friend of mine took this one of me (photographing my roses, of course, lol), several years ago now, through my kitchen window. That's my front walk bed. Problem is it doesn't look like that now because the tree grew up and the bed is half in shade now.

Love this thread. I don't have a single picture from inside the house. I'm sure my best shot will be John Davis climbing the front porch post taken through the window on my front door.

Here is a pic out the same window that is over the window seat, but looking to the left where Reve d'Or is climbing up the little roof over our back stairs. The second one is one I could not resist posting - Emmy having a spat with her sister Charlotte, with the third girl Lizzy looking on - they all love to sit on top of the towel racks and stare out those windows.

No, flowers, only two of those roses remain, Love and Golden Celebration, and they have been moved much further to the right to get them out from under the tree. I do have the Apothecary Rose there now. It's a once bloomer and it sets its bloom early before the tree leaves out so the shade the rest of the year doesn't bother it.

Well, Seil, I would love to see that spot next spring. Perfect choice as Apothecary just glows.

Oh, I love it - The Bronte sisters! They're all beautiful girls. Looks like Charlotte is a bit possessive of that towel rack. They must be admiring your roses. Funny how they find their special places to perch. Mine has never touched her cat tree or bed, but will perch or sleep on anything that wasn't specifically bought for her.

flowersaremusic - you caught on to the Bronte sisters! It was so funny - we did that on purpose when we got Emmy and Charlotte, who are litter mates. A year later we got Lizzy from Animal Control in San Francisco, where she and her mother and litter mates had been living on the streets in the lower Mission. Anyway, when we got her they had already named her Lizzy, and then we realized that there WAS a Bronte sister named Elizabeth, and decided it was meant.

Yes, they do like to sit/sleep in interesting odd places, but ours do love the beds we bought them, especially the ones we put in boxes on the back porch counter (porch is glassed in, but not heated), which have heating pads under the beds in the wintertime.

Flowers - oh your cat!! How do she know that you bought it just for her!! LOL I have an expensive dog bed that I bought...neither of my dogs will go near it. LOL Maybe there's a desperation to these objections...we really, really want them to use these things. :)

Tammy - beautiful!!!! People like you amaze me (in a good way) ... how can you make such a beautiful, symmetric oasis like that...I couldn't do that in a million years. I can imagine Jackie Kennedy strolling through that garden! :)

strawchicago - I love the way the screen softens the pic of Pink Peace in your first picture. The second picture is one of my favorite types of views - looking down on the garden from inside.

Tammy - both of your pictures are gorgeous. I like these kinds of "inside to outside" pictures when they capture some of the border of the window - somehow makes it more obvious that you are inside. The close focus on the close flowers, and then the romantic fuzzyness of the part of the garden which is further away, is delightful. Your first picture is a fabulous "looking down on the garden" one, where the garden looks like a remote fantasy land. Even your watering can is color-coordinated!

So peaceful and enchanting! Im imagining it like an enchanted magic room you can only go into by entering a secret trap door. Love that the books are there. Who wouldn’t want to spend all day reading in that room!

Thank you Grace - yes, especially now, I spend several hours a day reading there.

Here are two more pics of roses taken from inside - last from me, I promise. They are roses planted on our lot line, with the hops of obscuring the ugly old garage next door, which is very close. Regarding the view from the ground this worked, but these pics were taken from our glassed in back porch, which is above them. Roses are Buff Beauty, Cl Iceberg, and Summer Wine ( by Kordes, not to be confused with 'Summerwine'), taken at two different times. Also a clematis whose name I forget.

So beautiful Jackie! I don’t really see my roses from my windows, since they are too far away. I hope someday that Reve d’Or will grow enough to travel the 15-20 feet down the fence so I can see it from my kitchen window and it blocks the “bad side” of the neighbor’s house. The houses are 10’ apart with concrete sidewalks on each side so nothing can be planted right between. Reve d’Or is in the front yard and getting trained along the top of the fence, climbing Pinkie gets to fill in underneath, but won’t ever get close to reaching the kitchen window, which is past the gate another 15 feet. I think another 2 years maybe.

Yes, I agree that Reve d"Or, in your climate, should grow large. We have one in partial shade here which has grown 10 feet up to a small roof over our back stairs, and then along the roof in both directions - probably 15 feet wide up there. I love it.

Wow! Reve d'Or sounds like a really vigorous climber!!

rosecanadian - Summer Wine (modern LFC) has red buds, and then opens a peach color, which gradually fades to pink. It is a large single, and I love the blooms.

It and Reve d"Or and all of my climbing roses are VERY vigorous here - I let them do what they want to do, as that is easier, and I like the "rose jungle" look when they combine with each other (and I am lazy). I live in a Mediterranean zone 9 climate, which has dry summers and cool wet winters. The roses all seem to get here and say: "Oh, goodie!". When I first started purchasing roses, I was astonished that mine always seemed to get 2 to 3 times bigger and taller than the catalogues and rose books said they would, but we just made their supports taller, or trained them over to and up the house or garage. Since I am more of a collector than a garden desinger, I just let them design themselves.

Jackie, I love the look of your yard every time I see a photo. Yet I would not have thought of it until you mentioned about being a collector first and not as much a designer. Your yard had good bone so it feels like it has a design. I think I am more of a garden designer personality. The main thing I do in the yard is fill the yard waste bin pretty much every week year round. It’s a small yard and a small bin but I am constantly shaping. Except for MAC, it’s the non-rose plants that are the most work. Hah! You should see my Clytostoma callistegioides (Lavender Trumpet Vine), I have it precisely coming down the wires on that fence from the backyard towards the Reve d’Or and Cl. Pinkie. Exactly three stems with side shots cut short. I am so glad it’s not very vigorous.
