Remodel - Living Room Design / Placement

We're in the middle of a whole house remodel and can’t figure out where to locate the fireplace and TV in our living room. We have an open concept floor plan with the dining area dropping down a few steps and flowing into the living area which has 12x9 ft sliding glass doors leading out to a covered deck. We need to figure out where to put our fireplace (and really how to orient furniture and television, should it be two sitting areas with a pathway to the door between the two areas?).

We're dealing with an existing layout so not much we can do to change things structurally other than (a) moving around the fireplace which will be a direct vented gas fireplace that can go on any wall and (b) modifying / narrowing the step down between the dining room and living room. Thanks in advance for your help!

Where is the kitchen , a bit more detail would be good looks like windows or large glass walls on 2 sides a step down ( why) so do you need a FP. Tjis seems like a plan for a lot of outdoor living so how often would you use a FP. Are you thinking wood burning. gas or electric?

Thanks for your comment! The kitchen is on the other side of the dining space (the kitchen peninsula is at the right of the diagram). We also have a large elevated deck off the dining space, which is why you see another set of glass doors at the top.

We live in Southern California so we do plan on a lot of indoor/outdoor time. We thought a fireplace would be a nice design feature, mostly for visual interest since the room is large and oddly shaped. The fireplace would be direct vent gas - so it can go on any wall.

Looks to me that the outside 19’ wall is most obvious. Fireplace walls are usually a focal point in a room and if the traffic flow into the living room is from the dining room it would be awkward for the focal wall/fireplace to be on the 14’ wall. Good luck!
