I have a Klutz Glove and wear it religiously. I've heard so many stories on this forum about accidents with rotary cutters that I bought one. I must say that I've never "tested" it out though.

If you are a quilter, I can see the wool pressing pad as a handy item.

My sister, mom and I each have a wool pressing mat and they’re all different brands. They all work great and they’re so nice to have right next to the machine. I sew on a wood desk and use a silicone pet feeding mat under the wool mat to protect the wood surface.

I got my wool mat at Love Sew, mail order. I actually bought three, one for me, one for my daughter and one for my sister. My sister, who does some beautiful quilting says she appreciates pressing her blocks on the mat. High praise!

Theresa, is there an advantage of a wool mat over an ironing board besides convenience of location?

Lois, from what I understand the felted wool is very dense and hard. It makes a crisper set when you press - not iron - the piecing seams.

Thanks to everyone; I finally had a few minutes to look at some of them on line.

I’ve seen them used on Sewing with Nancy and Fons & Porter programs.

I found YouTube videos, one from Pat Sloan and one from Chatterbox Quilts. They were both demonstrating the New Zealand wool pads from Precision Quilting Tools.

I’m going to check them out. I hope to find a 3/4” thick pad.

I haven’t found out too much about the cut-proof gloves yet. I’ll check out your Klutz glove, Lois!

Lois, my mat actually sits on my ironing board. I always get up to press, need to keep my body parts moving. i haven’t sent my daughter her mat yet, so one day I set it beside mine and had a good sized pressing surface. But having it beside you is a good idea.

Thanks, Caroline and Theresa. I was thinking that might be the case. Like you, Theresa, I like to get up every few minutes to press to avoid sitting still for too long.

I've recently gotten into wool applique, and the wool pressing mat is almost an essential with all the steam and heat. I started with a smaller, 8x8 mat, and recently upgraded to a big one, 60x24. It fills my ironing table and I love it!!!! It does have an odor to it when I gets used a lot, but that's just part of it.
