How do I fix these cracks?

I am new to old houses (grew up in new construction but bought an old house with my husband a few years ago and love it). We have a lot of little cracks here and there around windowsills and along the trim in certain rooms. What should I use to fill and repair these? I am planning on painting all of the sills and trim/molding next spring, is it just a matter of putty or something and then paint? TIA for your help!

Determine if the rust is from an improperly installed and flashed window or condensation, please.

You can use latex caulk for those cracks but I would cut out that old cracked caulking with a utility knife first. Don’t use silicone caulk, it can’t be painted.

This is my favorite paintable caulk. It seems weird to fill it with clear caulk, however, I've found that it doesn't turn yellow like white paintable caulk does.
