All of my chemo quilts are backed with flannel. The flannel gets prewashed and since I don’t know how it will be cared for later, I use warm to hot water and hope to get as much shrinking done as possible. Of course, the dryer helps with that too.

Is this flannel a one sided flannel? Some is. Anyway it is better than any of that cheap snuggle flannel at Joanns. That cheap snuggle is nothing more that lint caught in a weave.

I got some good quality double sided flannel years ago and made flannel blankets for grandson. Those have lasted for years. The recieving blankets were all too small for my liking.

On the other hand, things made with Joanns flannel have almost disengrated in the wash. I even gave away a few pieces of that I still had because I just won't waste my time sewing with it.

Your Kaufman flannel is likely to be a better quality, but I understand how you say it is stiff. It may be one sided flannel, possibly.

Hubs has a robe that has served him well for many winters that I sewed from some of that kind of flannel like what you bought. It is good quality but not really soft and fuzzy. That fuzzy comes from too many loose fibers and that is not a sturdy fabric with such loose fibers.

It's 2-sided, from Hancock of Paducah. Nice quality. I called them, and they said what I want is their Marcus flannel which is more like shirt flannel. I guess I should have researched flannel a little better! I might wash/dry it again.

I guess I could make a robe like you did right? Do "they" even sell patterns anymore?

Thanks for the warning about Joann's flannel. Not sure what I'll do. I won't get to it for a while as I started another project waiting for the Hancock flannel to come. Maybe it will be ok; I have to think about it.

It is their line of "snuggle" flannel that I find problems with.

I think that I remember the last time I looked that they had introduced a different tier of their snuggle line.

Well, I ordered some "sunggle." I'll take a look at it when it comes and decide.

I've found that good quality flannel (from one of the name brands) does not shrink as much as the stuff from JoAnns. I did a flannel quilt with a muslin back without preaching and had no problems I did use color catchers however when wASHING later.

That basic line of snuggle flannel also pilled up after a couple of washings. It was truly awful stuff! Just to prewash it made it looks as if it had been through a shredder.

The last time I looked at flannel in Joanns was about this time last year. I think I remember that they had a premium line of snuggle flannel as well as the other stuff.

Not all Joann's flannel is bad. I made some drool bibs for my grandson that have lasted 2 years thru wash after wash. He used them through teething, now a cousin's son is using them. So do not think all Joann flannel is bad. Just like any other store, they have different qualities.

I was thinking this morning a flannel twin sheet would probably be good but maybe not much choice in prints.

socks, just try one of their "super snuggle" flannels. I looked it up because I really thought that I remember how they added a premium line to their flannel. I just could not remember what they were calling it. I am sure it will be just fine to do what you want to do. It looks like it may be on a promotion right now, according to the website. You may be overthinking this. It happens.

Joanns is awful for giving the customer a coupon that is good for almost nothing in the store because so much of the merchandise is already on promotion for a pittance percentage. It is all bogus pricing and pure marketing strategy. But, of course, it is a business and that is what they do.

But, I stand by my assessment of the basic "snuggle" line. It is not quality at all. A couple of cuts that I had in my stash almost destructed just in the pre wash. I looked at that and realized that there is no way that I was going to put the time and effort into making a robe that already looks worn out after the first wash.

I did order some flannel from Joannes, can’t remember which. I got an email from them that they’re way behind on shipping. I replied and asked him to cancel the order but they probably won’t.
