If you are in an area that freezes and thaws be advised that the concrete may form cracks over time. I am in Florida and my concrete driveway has cracks.

You could also consider taking your current driveway and having a skilled contractor turn it into a Tar & Chip or Macadam Driveway

Thank you so much! Yes I know it will likely have some cracks. we live in the Washington DC area and it does freeze during the winter time. I have a very small driveway and b/c of the slope the asphalt doesn’t last long. I received a quote of $2500 for asphalt and $3500 for concrete. I figured the asphalt really only lasts for 8 years and the concrete should last me about 15 years. So cost wise, I think it’s more efficient to replace with concrete and take the risk with some cracks.

Not sure why. Maybe b/c there’s a lot of clay soil around us. When we bought the home, the drive way was only 2 years old and it already had large sunken areas. The previous owners went with a reputable company so not sure why.

That problem may be due to an improper base installed underneath it (or drainage issues. If the driveway base is insufficient, you will have problems whether you have asphalt or concrete.

Agree but most of the asphalt companies that have come out just want to take a few inches off and then add asphalt on top. They don’t want to really touch the base, only a few of the problem areas. Concrete folks say they’ll redo the entire base.
