haha yea I plan to replace the floors also.

Agree with June Know to replace the floors.

You could do a lot towards achieving your look by using black small kitchen appliances or stainless with black trim.

I love them because they won't show stains from tomato sauce and pomegranate juice and curry and beets, etc. also, when they get hot, they won't show heat/scorch marks the same way white appliances will.

Some ideas- coffee maker. toaster, Vitamix, Cuisinart, kettle.

You can have a black and white patterned kettle something like a Mackenzie Childs type.

A black/white patterned dish towel, floor mat.

Dunno if you are brave enough, but I love, love black and white checkerboard kitchen floors.

What do you think of painting the walls themselves black, and leaving the cabinets as-is? :-)

If that isn't appealing, lol, then of the 3 choices you presented, I think I'd pick a black island with white perimeter cabinets -- to lessen the "darkness" -- since it seems you may not have any windows in the kitchen that flood the space with natural light. ;-)

I think, your kitchen is just beatutiful.

The only thing I am seeing missing is ... backsplashes. if you add backsplashes, that will add value to your kitchen. think about it. Beilive me, if you add backsplashes, your thought of painting cabinets will be changed over the time.

Go to homedepot/other stores, for backsplash, and see any style matches your current style of cabinets and floor. your floor does match the cabinets's color unless you have problem with the current flooring or you have good money to spend.

if you really want to choose a combination of black(dark) and white,

Don't go with Black, again I am saying.. Don't go with Black

your and your family won't loves those black cabinets over the time. Trust me.

Go with Java Gel stain over all the cabinets. you are going to love this. why because you off white counter top. WOW.. superb Idea right...

You can search for Java Gel stain in the internet . Here is the picture for you.

Last but Least, Adding some decoration on the top of upper cabinets. cool..

    Good Luck !!

I love black and white, but not sure it would work here. It can be very stark looking, so I would leave some things wood. That’s all I’ve got.

You have no natural light in the kitchen. Black will suck out any light you have and unless you spend the $5000-$7000 to have the cabinets professionally painted in a few years they will wind up looking like garbage

a windowless space.[.kitchen or other ] does not handle black surfaces well. put a medium to darker stained floor if you want darker...the lower portion of base cabinets get the shadows anyway if you note. With your fairly adequate ceiling lighting [ it appears] maybe nice to swap a few wall cabinet doors for glass inserted ones. FROSTED or SEEDED? this tweak would help balance out darker flooring and maybe even a darker island top. No to painting cabinets. A backsplash as mentionned would be a nice final touch.

There’s so many options aside from black and white... but if that what you want I’d do the island black and lowers black with white uppers. I would like to see more pics... are there windows anywhere? Doors? Walkways? Dinette? Do you want a whole new look? Do you not like the brown? You can take the cabs all the way up to the ceiling, have them painted any color. Add new hardware lighting over the island and definitely a backsplash. And obviously the floor you said your doing. Options are so endless that we should narrow down some things. Give us more specific details in why your doing this mini Reno to your kitchen and what you need out of this space

Just change floor add black metal lights and hardware, black stools and a white simple splash. A black and white stripped ruggable rug.

All I would do in the kitchen is remove the 4" backsplash and choose an eye catching tile for the backsplash.

I would then spend my money on removing the tile and carpet, and covering the whole downstairs with engineered wood.

Sorry I didn't see, there is backsplash. I agree with chispa. Cover the whole floor with engineered wood. that way the whole space will be look bigger. I have wood all over the living place including kitchen, my space look bigger and invitting , Good luck !!

It looks modern. Cheap to dos - take off the tablecloth. Take off the black fabric around the windows. Buy a contemporary light for over the table and lower it when you put it up.

Put a floating shelf under your tv - wood if you want to pick up the kitchen tone or black metal. Ditch the country table behind the sofa. Get a contemporary table with a contemporary table light.

In the kitchen, remove the upper cabinets - at least the ones in the corner, and replace with shelves. Rip the little 4" inch backsplash off and tile with stacked glass tiles. Please don't paint cabinets - they look very nice. Add a couple modern bar stools.

If you are trying to get more modern, I would leave the stained cabinets, but replace all the uppers ( that staggered top is far from modern ). Keep the one over the ref . You could do New uppers in a white and add a nice stainless chimney hood. You could then use the uppers ( that are the same height ) , attach them together and put on feet as a sideboard for your table area. Just flip them upside down so the handles are on the top. Put a nice piece of granite on top and you will have all that extra storage.

Remove the small 4" high backsplash and find a cool tile to go there.

    Good luck!

This space is awesome. By modern I assume you mean up to date not necessarily a modern Sharp like style ... anyways I would love to see new hardware and taller cabinets and new lighting , backsplash and floor. Obviously take your time. I’m also laughing from the can light placement lolll!! Show us some inspo photos you have. What style is your favorite v
