I have always been charmed by greenhouses and when the kids were small would taken them to large commercial growing greenhouses just to get some sun and warmth on our cold winter days.

I loved propagating plants years ago, and would like to return to starting seeds and propagating.

I was wondering about installing a DIY greenhouse on our farm to have an outdoor location for my adult daughter and me to work. I can have a small setup in the basement like I did 25 years ago, but wonder if a greenhouse could also work for me once the seedlings get some size to them and to harden off. The greenhouse would be a project that could happen this year or next. I am in no rush, except I'm getting older.

I have access to propane line, and could tap into the line for the greenhouse. I have access to a power hookup for 240 at one of the poles, though that might be over kill. I could put in a wood stove, as we have a GIANT pile of seasoning wood from the downed trees this August when the derecho went through central Iowa.

Location of a greenhouse. I could have it totally in the open, or I could place it to the east of a large deciduous tree, for afternoon shade in the summer.

I've read on a recent thread that someone in Colorado, a warmer zone than me, spends $100 in heating cost during the winter.

I have looked at the kits, and could consider this, but the rated wind loads don't sound promising. I considered building one with DH, as we have a lot of recycled wood from over the years that is in excellent shape.

Any conversations on this topic are welcomed. Any book recommendations for general info, and construction would be helpful too.
