In addition to the cabinets, the backsplash will have to coordinate with the countertop and flooring. So, please post images of each tile by all of the surfaces.

If at all possible, I would wait until the cabinets and walls are painted before making your decision

I notice there's pattern in the granite, so maybe keep the backsplash simple. Better to have either the counters or backsplash pull focus...not both.

The walls are painted I was hoping to have the backsplash installed first as that is what contractor suggested

The contractor is working on his personal schedule. The backsplash should be put in last.

The tile color you choose needs to relate to both the cabinet color and the counter. No way to actual judge until it is finished.

I would not do the travertine subway. Travertine has not been in favor for many years now, and for good reasons.

The arabesque has been popular for quite a few years. If you really like it, it wouldn’t be a terrible choice. But I think the white is too stark against the counter.

In my opinion, you will need more of a cream color as your transition from cabinet to counter. What is the counter? It looks different in each of your pictures.

Wouldn't it be more functional for you if the island was a straight line?
