Definitely do a backsplash. Something with the handcrafted look to it I think will tie both together. The color will need to be determined in the space with samples. As far as shape, probably a larger subway.

You know, you don't really need a backsplash.

The purpose of a backsplash is to protect the wall from cooking flotsam and jetsam from the sink and range.

Your sink is on the island, so no need for a backsplash there.

And your stove has a built in backstop with the microwave above it, co very little bare area.

All you need to protect is that very small area between the top of the stove backstop and the underside of the microwave.

If that were my kitchen, I would affix a stainless steel panel to the wall behind your stove.

Timelessly classic, super-easy to clean and inexpensive and easy to install.

What that kitchen does desperately need is color accents and life.

What does it look like now?

All kitchens have accessories, dish towel, cutting boards, a plant, a bowl of fruit, etc.

If you put of a photo of your kitchen the way it looks now, we can better suggest what will aesthetically enhance your kitchen.

I don’t have an opinion to offer, but I’ll be watching the replies to your question. We need to add the backsplash after we close on our house and will have very similar finishes to work with.
