Best window replacement?

Would obviously be cheapest to just replace with white and double grilles.
Thoughts on changing up the whole look to larger black vinyl and no shutters? Worth the investment and risk?
Photo is an example - don’t have a program
to do a mock-up.

Why does everyone want black windows. They don't belong on every house. I certainly don't think they belong on yours. In 5 or 10 years they'll be "out" and you'll be stuck with them. Keep it white.

    Shutters?

Yes, as long as they are properly sized for the windows. They should be able to close over the window and meet in the middle - even if they never do.

    White is forever!

That is a classic home in my opinion. New construction white with SDL's would look the best in my opinion. Shutters properly sized would look perfect as well.

I voted for black, no shutters, however, be aware that the siding will be a different shade under the shutters, so that will have to be considered.

    White with shutters. Classic look.

Your front door is trimmed out in a very traditional and appropriate way — in my opinion the more modern and trendy look of black windows/no shutters won’t look good with that. You can see how your inspiration pictures have plain front doors.

To me, your house is so much better looking that the others you show here. I would freshen up the landscaping for an updated look.

Michal, I have a very similar home, almost exact. I used a very good vinyl window by Okna Windows; we installed the Okna 600 series. I did get a black exterior with grids between the glass. We kept our shutters but may eventually remove them. Fyi, the Okna window does not look cheap in any way, its a very nice window even though its a vinyl. We get a lot of compliments and they are super efficient in the cold. Our contractor was very good which I imagine most Okna dealers would be.

Unfortunately, we cannot get Okna in VT.

Any thoughts on MI vs. Sunrise vinyl?

Do our shutters not look properly sized? I thought they did.

Your shutters look properly sized to me, but it's hard to tell exactly from a photo. I have no info on vinyl windows as I don't use them. My daughter (near Boston) just replaced some of her windows with Andersen 400 Woodwright and is very pleased. Wood on the interior and clad on the exterior. She is doing it in phases. My guess is that they are much more expensive than vinyl.

Sunrise make a very glod window ( vanguard or restorations). MI do not make a good window.

The Sunrise model is much better than anything out there under the MI label.

On color, I think that black will have a little more staying power than some give it credit for, on the other hand white is truly timeless, and I don't think that black would look good with your current siding color. Questionable even with the style of home IMO.

Because I'm not a fan of white exteriors I'd include siding and trim with no shutters as necessary additions to the window color change.

I’m sure your project is done (I’m waiting forever for a contractor to become available for window replacement). In my opinion, despite the trend for black windows, don’t choose a trendy option for something this expensive and in place for potentially decades. Stick with white. I suppose shutters are easier to add/remove, but not windows. Your house doesn’t give me that “Modern Farmhouse” vibe, but even that style is starting to wane a bit (so I’ve read). In the end, it’s your house—do what feels right for you.
