Paula, thank you for organizing the hosta alphabet. I look forward to this time of year. Amazing "A" hostas.

This year we hate a late freeze then struggles with slugs so my hostas have more holes in them then usual. Maybe next year I will be better with ammonia/vinegar drenches for the slugs.

djacobz..just asking..is it possible your August Moon 10/14/2020 is mislabeled?..I have August Moons in the front, back, side and in a pot..mine have bigger leaves..my foliage is lighter..the stems of my blooms are just green..mine look different..

So glad to see the alphabet! I love to wake up to glorious hosta while I inhale tea! They really do bring home the fact that the maple roots are so hard on my hosta. Some do ok but boy they can’t compare to all of yours.

nw, for me this whole season has been playing with smoke and mirrors and injuries have left us no place to hide. I was very surprised they were able to come back in that game-they just seemed like they had nothing left in the tank. And by they I mean players and coaches. We’ll see how the rest of the season goes... Good luck to getting in the play offs, I can’t remember the specifics right now(not enough caffeine yet) but dang the AFC is tough this year. There are going to be quite a few quality teams that don’t make it.

Back to the hosta, anybody know where you can get spin out bags? I looked online and didn’t see anything. Any thoughts on planting in cheap containers and then planting in the dirt? Tree roots are killing me but by the same token I love them and can’t get rid of them.

oursteelers.."smoke and mirrors" describes the Colts too..sometimes I think "they're pretty good"..but then other times "they can't do anything right"..yesterday we had good and bad in one game 🙁

Hi all. Paula- thanks for hosting, I like the ‘no mask’ rule for this party... I’m pretty fed-up with the masks.

For the first time in several years, I have no hostas overwintering in the garage... I worked really hard to get everything in the ground this year. Of course it helped that I was working from home and couldn’t stand to turn on the tv.

Not sure I have photos of all of them, but I’ll share what I’ve got, and I love seeing all of yours!

oursteelers, I battle maple tree roots too! When I planted into my front garden (less roots), I realized even more so how bad my back garden is. I envy you in that you can choose to remove your tree/s or not. I am being forced to keep my tree/s by a city bylaw. (First and foremost, I want one tree removed due to the threat of basement flooding from plugged eavestrough.)

It might be a good idea to start a new thread about planting hosta pots in the garden.

Good news and Great news.

I get my spin out bags from that site so leave some for me, lol. I use the 3 gallon bags for small and 5 gallon bags for most others. 7 Gallon bags for very large and I even used some 10 gallon bags, but they are hard to dig the holes for with all the roots.

I think the Steelers' woes come down to play calling. When they open up the play book, the seem to do much better.

Tough year for Hostas (and people). Too bad about that Wildest Nightmare (my name since it died). That looks like a real keeper. Here's a few of mine. The Apple Orchard (maybe one day) Appletini flanked by two Apple Candy with Alligator Alley to the back left:

For those that use them, can you keep your hosta in their spin out bags indefinitely? They are expensive so I’m thinking I would like to use them for my most “special” hosta...not real sure how I will determine that. On any given day my favorites change.

Nicholsworth, regarding my August Moon..... it was labeled AM but anything is possible. I have placed these hosta in several spots in my yard and it was lighter, but everywhere I put it, it would burn. So I put it in total shade. I know it’s too deep and will have to dig up plant higher and remove tree roots. Let me see if I have an older photo of it to post.

Oursteelers, regarding spin out bags, you can keep hosta in spin out bags indefinitely BUT usually not the same bag! That's because they are usually used because of tree roots. And the bags thin out and weaken in a few years. Then the roots begin to invade! So spin out bags do work, but you can't get away using the same bag. I find also, there's no point to putting a hosta in a large spin out bag because the hosta is going to be big. Surprisingly, hosta grow pretty well in spin out bags that are too small!

I'm so late this year but I will not miss to tell you that I'm glad your are still cancer free! I already checked a few of your jokes and they get better every year :-)

It has not been a good gardening year over here, the weather was crazy and frost was really late and rain in June/July, so I was not able to take the pictures I would have wanted. But soon it's time for new ones. The sun is shining for two weeks now and I hope I can detect a few signs of life soon.
