I have a similar design issue. How would you install the tile? Diagonal?

If you do rectangular, you would not install on the diagonal.

So is the installation a brick pattern?

Hi Cindy, we would recommend porcelain tile, especially for kitchens. They are nearly scratch/stain proof, resist water damage, and don't need regular maintenance like natural wood. We would also recommend sticking to the same warm color tone you have going with your cabinets and counter top and choose a dark brown. Alternatively, if you like the look of what you have, light travertine tiles are also available in porcelain varieties, and offer the same strength and durability.

I would also think that a porcelain or stone tile would be a great option as it would compliment both your kitchen as well as you existing wood floors.
