living room layout

Looking for ideas on neat way to arrange furniture in our living room... the first photo is how it was originally arranged , the second two is one way we could float the couches more. Otherwise , I could pull the original arrangement up and leave walk space behind the back of the couch and inform of the window . Only issue is that the small couch would be split between the other window and art wall. However, I could center it to the peak of the vaulted ceiling . Any thoughts would be much appreciated !

    Using first picture:

    1 turn rug

2 place loveseat left arm aligned with left side of window

3 move TV console to be centered on the wall it is on now

4 move chair to the other side of console

5 front 1/3 of sofa and loveseat on rug

    6 console table behind sofa

The first thing I’d do is turn the rug. It’ll make a huge difference. Then pull the couch a little away from the windows

In order to help you, could you please

-post of a photo of all 4 walls.

    - a to scale floor plan if possible.

I am liking the second and third pictures best, as you don't want your back to the window.

One idea is to switch the sofa and the love seat.

Here are some more angles and a floor plan, there is a main wall way from the front door as well as a stair railing . The large sofa is currently centered on the window.

Also note, we ordered this chair for the corner ( 30” wide) , the railing and front door will eventually be updated and replaced .

Thanks. Is the floor plan to scale and what are the dimensions of the room?

In general, this arrangement is your best. Move the rug so that it lines up with the back of the sofa.

I'd consider not putting a large table between the sofa and the love seat. Allow a walkway there.

There is a lot of bulky furniture in the room. Would you consider buying 2 chairs and eliminating the love seat?

Yep, the floor plan is to scale ( 1’ per square) , we could do do chairs instead of loveseat ... my other concern is how dark our furniture is, it feels heavy especially when you see the back of it so wondering is switching out for one cream sofa and two cream swivel chairs ? Possibly another colored rug then

Something like this but with two chairs instead of one?

Ignore the sofa and rug color but, would this work? The loveseat or two chairs pulled out a bit from
Wall but not a walk space, rather walk space between that and the large sofa as you suggested , the accent , armchair chair in the corner next to tv with floor lamp?

I definitely think a lighter sofa and chairs is the answer. I don't know about a chair in the corner. Too much. The space between sofa chairs does not have to be that much.....just enough to scoot through.

Before you make any decisions, please do the following in this order. Will save time. $ and headaches. Looks like you are willing to think this through.

-ideabook with plenty of photos of what style and colors you like (you posted a very traditional chair and then a more contemporary sofa and chairs....so not sure what you want)

-floor plan to include tables, lamps.

-use current furniture to mimic what you will buy and see if it works well for you.

-purchase, using the paramaters you outlined in your floor plan.

Thank you so much for all your advise and help. I very much so like mixing styles , more specifically ,I love industrial and traditional with some contemporary if need be. (Think restoration hardware). I do have one more question, where would you think to do an end table or, not necessary? We will suffice with the love seat for now until the kids are a little older as I’m weary of white sofas for that reason alone ha!

Also, the coffee table is going to be rebuilt and made much narrower to better fit the space

It depends on your needs. You can do C tables, but you also have to consider lighting. One idea might be to add a large arc lamp and then use C tables.

Thank you for that tip! We are going to install a chandelier overhead as well so that will
Help. Also considering creamy white slip covers until we replace the sofas , definitely
Helps lighten the space ! Just need a new rug and possibly curtains to help with some contrast ,
Thanks so much again! Most thrilled that our heating vent under the large window is no longer blocked

I should note , those are not the slip covers, just some bedding to get a feel for it

LOL. Yes, I hope those are sheets!

What about getting some lighter grey slipcovers and then you don't have to change the rug (unless you can use it in another room).

Yes, gray is trending out, but you don't have to follow that. I personally have always loved grey. Your choice.

I prefer the dark sofas. I think the style of them could change but with the very light carpet I think you need something different.

A Lighter grey sounds like a great option, great thought, thanks!
