Basement renovation with off centre fireplace help!

We are renovating our basement and are stuck as to what to do with this wall. It will be a family room with large screen tv. We would like some storage/built in . The fireplace is wood but we have gas to the fireplace and have flexibility in the placement. We will take off the brick hearth in front. Suggestions on how to balance this wall. Should we move the fireplace to the centre or leave where it is and drywall over and then place gas insert. The ceiling is 7 1/2 feet with 10 feet of wall to the fireplace, 5 1/2 feet of brick on this wall. There is a 6 foot wall on the left and a full wall on the right side with a small basement window. We have looked at a million suggestions but torn as to what would look the best and balance the fireplace and tv. Thank you for suggestions and advice.

You have the perfect arrangement for the tv on one side and the fireplace on the other, with builtins for storage. That also gives you a better height for watching tv than placing it over the fireplace. You can balance out the brick fireplace with the tv and builtins on the other side, which would be easier than if the fireplace was centered.

The finishes depend on the rest of the space, like the flooring and wall color, and also what style you want. You can keep the brick as it is and make dark or light colored builtins, or paint the brick white and do white builtins. Lots of options. I would design the storage and tv area first, and then think about finishes.

When I read this question, my first reaction was the same as Calidesign's. I wouldn't change the color of the brick and I would leave the Hearth the way it is. If you build a wood wall unit from the fireplace wall to the corner then finish it (i.e., stained wood), it will add texture and warmth to the basement room. In a basement, that's what you need. If it's feasible, it would be nice to finish the ceiling in the future.
