2021 Thread Heading into Spring

...sounds like Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally.

Sally:
[Crying hysterically] And I'm going to be forty!

Harry:
When?

Sally:
Someday!

Harry:
In eight years!

Spring is so far away...it may feel like "Someday"...but it's coming!!!

Here's a rose to remind us that spring is coming.

I’m glad to know that Carol! How many mail order nurseries does Canada have? Besides loving Palatine, I was sad when Pickering stopped shipping to the USA, because right before they stopped I had ordered a few roses from them. In 2011 I ordered some Floribundas, then I got distracted, but my JULIA CHILD survived and has been a good rose. In 2013 I ordered two SOUVENIR DE LA MALMAISON and kept them in pots for two seasons, one survived that and since I got it in the ground it’s been a very good rose. Thankfully, we do have good sources in the USA!

Two of my grandkids have birthdays in January, Jackson and Anna. So close to Christmas, but I don’t want to short change them, just because of that! Not that they’re lacking for anything! At this time, especially since I’m not seeing them as often, I never want them to forget how special they are! Anyway, I got that taken of this morning.

I’ve posted this one recently, but my above comment reminded me of it.

    SOUVENIR DE LA MALMAISON

Holy Hannah Sara Ann!!! That's LUSCIOUS!!! Swoon-worthy!!! I would LOVE to have such fabulous roses!!

We have Palatine, Hortico and Wildwood that mail roses. There are others that only have hardy roses. But, I don't get roses from those places.

Cornhill is a great Canadian nursery too that mails roses.

    A couple of photos today:

    Annabelle Hydrangea

    Part of the garden

There are a few roses in the photo, but nothing showing up as the light was pretty bright. Too much for my phone, anyway. I took a video, but am unable to access it.

Sara Ann, when SdlM does well she does very well! Your bouquet is a testament.

I see the Roses! That picture is just dreamy! What a perfect idyl. I find it amazing but we can live in such different parts of the world it still grow the same plants. What is the imposing tree in the picture?

Thank you Trish. You have a beautiful garden setting and I love your Annabelle Hydrangea. Also, thank you Carol and Sheila.

So brautiful Trish. What a lovely retreat you have created.

I love Annabelle hydrangeas, especially since that was my grandmother's name

Thanks all. Vaporvac, the tree is a Jacaranda, which is probably around 80 years old. I wanted to be able to post the video, mainly to give the noise of the cicadas. They're having a bumper year!

I thought it might be that. I think you posted a picture of it in flower at one time that was ethereal. We're up for a big cicada year also.

Carol, I hope your dog is doing ok...Sorry to hear...

    Thanks everyone!

I miss Diane! I think she was having computer problems. I do hope we hear from her soon.

Carol, sorry your dog is having issues. I would be lying if I said I read everything thoroughly, but I feel bad when I miss things, so then I try to find what I missed

i noticed I received the Austin list from Palatine. I‘m sure most of you did too. I really shouldn’t order any though!

    last modified: 5 years ago

I havent gotten a notice yet and I have plenty ordered from them.

I will see what they have and if it is The Prince I might cave and get another rose that I have no room for

I should save my money for soil and manure and fertilizer.

Sarah Ann, I am the same way! I miss so much. But I do want to say I hope your dog feels better Carol.

Vaporvac, I do hope we hear from Diane soon.

Kristine, I did notice they listed The Prince under AUSvelvet.

I saw that too, plus the Squire and Qween Nefertiti.

I probably wont order anything. I'm having enough trouble trying to figure out where to plant everything that I already ordered lol.

Kristine, I don’t plan to order any Austins from Palatine, but I ordered way too many roses already! I commend you for your restraint! I’m pretty sure you didn’t get nearly as carried away as I did!

Speaking of Austins, on another thread I saw a picture of Sheila’s QUEEN OF SWEDEN, so gorgeous! We definitely need to see more of her roses!

yes. I'm not ordering anything either so that should leave some for the rest of you! I think I have enough for this year.

When I ordered I just figured that what I ordered were 2-3 ft roses so they could go in pots but I am even out of room for pots without it looking too crowded.

After seeing some of Ann's reds/purples, I am tempted but will show a bit of restraint, better late than never I guess

I just took the plunge and ordered some Felco pruners . With prunning season right around the corner I really needed a reliable pair of clippers .

Dont laugh but one of the best clippers for deadheading came from the Dollar store . They are always sharp . But for serious prunning, not so much.

I got some new Felco pruners, I think in 2019. It’s amazing that sometimes there can be real bargains out there, it does happen occasionally!

What‘s going on with the post office? I sent a flat rate parcel to my granddaughter in Portland last Friday, and they said it should arrive there on Monday the 11th, until this morning it was still at a distribution center in Tulsa! It did leave there some time today, and said it was out for delivery to Portland, Oregon. It wasn’t a Christmas present, just stuff. She said she wanted some of those funny socks, so I included some of those. I can now relate to how older folks (at least me) don’t keep up with all the fads. I’m pretty much out of the loop on everything!

I hope everyone is okay, sure miss hearing from you all!

So what are funny socks!? I guess I need to google that one. : ))

Funny Socks: The selection was almost overwhelming! Kind of like roses, LOL!

LOL! My DH gets me a pair for almost every holiday and occasion I have enough for The Twelve Days of Christmas and think I'll soon have enough for Advent. I also have Hanukka, All Saint's Day, Thanksgiving and Spring. The only holiday I'm missing is 4th of July and the various equinox! Only problem is I like them so much and each one is so unique, I darn them when then give instead of moving them to the dust rag bin. Your examples are really cute! What did you get her?

Vaporvac, I got her all of the ones shown. They come in packages of a dozen pair. There are many designs to choose from!

DeJoy was put in charge of the Post office, Sara-Ann, and he had no experience but was a donor to the President. He had sorting machines removed.

Pruned Marie Pavie today and a few winter blooms that were clipped off.

    Beautiful, Stephanie!

Thanks Sara Ann. She is a blooming machine! Musk fragrance to die for as well.

Stephanie, I will admit that I’m a little envious of those of you in warmer zones, but very much an admirer of your beautiful roses too.

What happened I feel like I slept for years...

I got covid 19 and have been severely ill for over 2 weeks...

    So what's going on?

Oh my gosh Jim ! I am ao sorry.! Are you feeling better ?

Carol has terrible vertigo which is made worse by scrolling her computor so she is taking a break and now we now where you have been.

So glad to hear from you and pray that you will be completely healed and return to good health quickly.

Oh no Jim !! I’m praying you feel better soon .

Jim sorry you are feeling bad. We just got over Covid. My hubby was working in a busy ER with a lot of Covid patients and ended up catching it before they rolled out the vaccinations for his dept. even though he wears a mask etc. Then I got it and one of our sons. My daughter might have it now.

I had it the longest. I lost my taste and sense of smell for almost two weeks. I have it back now but its still not as strong as it was. Hubby is recovered and back to work now but Im still coughing a little. For me, coughingbwas the worst. Hopefully I will be totally over it soon. It seems to be dragging out. We are lucky we are generally healthy except my dh has asthma.

Take care of yourself. I drank warm tea and took a spoonful of honey every morning to kinda help loosen up all the crap in my chest. I had a lot of congestion. Drinking something warm in the morning first thing really helped.

My hubby had to get put on an oral steroid in addition to the inhaler he normally takes for his asthma and it really helped.

Hope you feel better soon Jim. How did you get Covid? Don't tell me it was through church.

DH is a church nut, he started to check out a couple churches near our new place. People didn't wear masks inside churches! And some of them wanted to shake hands! I will fake coughing if people get too close to me. Lol

I miss going to church but right now I am not taking any chances.

I know Kristine. I will see if I can talk him into staying home for a while.

Oh Jim, so sorry you had to go through that. I wondered where you were. Pennsylvania has it pretty badly I know.

Jim, I've been wondering about you too. I presume you're on the mend, as you've posted? The 'new' thread is titled 'Seasonal threads?', if you want to have a look.

So sorry to hear that Jim and you also sultry. I hope you both recover quickly and fully. Jim, I was so saddened to hear about Cagney. I bet you just let your defenses down. You were the best cat Dad, but it still hurts.

Oh no, I missed Jasmine's post. Hope you get well very soon too Jasmine!

I missed that sjn has it too. Just gone back, and seen your post, sjn. Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery for you and your family.

Thank you. I am mostly over it now except the cough grrr. My daughter has a cough and fever. She is young and healthy so probably will get over it soon, hopefully.

I hope Jim is feeling better today as well as Carol too!

Aww Sultry, I must have missed it too.

I am so sorry that you have/had the covid

Prayers for a full and speedy healing for you and your daughter.

sultry_jasmine_nights ..sorry to hear you all had covid too...Hope your all feeling better...

Carol, I hope you start feeling better soon also... Sorry to hear your down...

Summer, my niece and my sister visited me and they had covid but did not know it...

As for me I'm back to feeling 90% so getting there... Thanks everyone!

Sadly I have more bad news...Lacey my cat suddenly lost alot of her eye-sight last night...

Vet appt Monday... So sad watching her bump into things... I suspect high blood pressure (hypertension) since Lacey has hyperthyroidism and is in kidney failure.

I will take care of her the best I can...This sudden change has rocked my world so need to shake it off and focus on Lacey...

I hope all of you thats having health problems feel better real soon....

Jim: I'm so sad to hear about your cat Lacey, my sister recently put her dog to sleep due to illnesses, then she bought a new puppy & very happy with it.

A pic. to cheer you up, it's a bouquet picked early Nov. before hard frost hit. Left dark pink is Dee-lish, right pink is Aloha. It's my last bouquet for last year.

Prairie Harvest (yellow) and Poseidon (blue) are good bloomers in late fall.

Glad you’re on the mend sultry and hope your daughter recovers soon.

Jim, it seems to be one thing after another for you, but glad you’re feeling much better. So sorry about Lacey.

I truly miss Carol, I hope she knows how much she is missed and loved, and I also hope that she is better soon!

straw, those are both such beautiful combinations of blooms, the colors are lovely together.

Hi Everybody...I thought I'd check in here and see how I do. I did a bit of scrolling...and I'm not bad. Thank you all for the good wishes and wonderful thoughts about me!! I've been doing a lot of posture and neck exercises...they really do help since a lot of my problems seem to stem from the tiny muscles at the base of the skull. I'm also going to make an appointment to see one of my eye specialists. I went for a walk for the first time in who knows how long. My Achilles tendon is still sore...so it was a very slow walk. But, I got out of the house and the day was wonderful!!

I can't believe how many of you have had Covid!!!! How horribly scary!!!! I truly hope that your recovery is speedy and full.

And, Jim, {{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}} You have been the best cat Dad ever.

Carol, good to see you here, and great to hear that there's a solution.

Jim, I'm so sorry to hear about Lacey. Roll on Monday. I hope the vet can help.

Carol, what good news to hear you are improving and that there are exercises that can help, and especially that you can scroll without as much side effects. This bout has been a long one. I'm so sorry.

Jim, Lacey has bounced back a time or two before, so I hope she will again. She's still grieving her sister and missing her routine. My daughter lost one of her labs not too long ago, and the other one was changed forever. Labs have sad eyes anyway, but now, it's clear she's grieving. I hope Gracie is healthy and living her good life.

Straw, those bouquets are so beautiful. I think it's Poseidon that adds something special. Or, the yellow. I'm starting to appreciate yellow roses, finally.

We keep on keeping on. :) :)
