Laminate with gaps when it locks, by design?Experience w/evoke brand?

Hello, I have some evoke brand laminate I’m trying to install and it’s looking a bit odid, I’m not sure if this is how some or this laminate is designed or if it’s defective. This is not my first time installing laminate. we have it in other areas in our house and it sits flush with no gap.

When I connect pieces together the tongue and groove system engages but there seems to be a gap at every seam that will not go. It’s all of the pieces, and no amount of pounding makes it go. I can feel It, fit my nail in it, and see it. Could this be normal? Or is something wrong?
