Does the couch fit on window wall and then tv could go on wall where couch is?

We had couch along windows but didn’t like it. We used to have tv stand on that wall. Gah! This room stresses me out.

I like the idea of tv on side but electrical not available on that side.

More I’m embarrassed about! The old tv stand is acting as games and book storage.

It’s a tricky room for sure. If the tv can’t move and the sofa can’t move then I guess focus on what you can do. The window side looks empty to me. Maybe needs a chair or two there to even put the space.

I would maybe get two different units to try and balance out each side of the fireplace. I think you need art as well as greenery through plants too.

Not sure what your view out the windows is like. Possibly move the sofa in front of the window and the love seat where the sofa currently sits. You could move the TV to a console on the wall opposite the windows. That would give you extra storage space, as well. However, that might cause another problem with glare on the TV screen. It seems to me the fireplace box itself is very high. Maybe put some poufs or a bench in front of the fireplace to fill that space. Floating shelves on the walls on either side of the fire place.

And can you hide the cables? The cable outlet is on the left.

Cables can be hidden in the wall too. It’s not that hard but you would want to be sure where you want tv before doing it. How does cable currently get to to on mantle if it’s on left?

I think a tall cabinet or shelves would look unbalanced (top heavy) and busy in the corner.

Maybe a comfy reading corner — chair and lamp?

Adding another large piece of furniture to the room is not going to fix this.

Too bad the sofas are not the same size

Even with the sofa/loveseat pair not being the same size, positioning them facing each other (like Beverly shows) is probably the best option. On the far end of the loveseat you'll just have extra room for an end table.

Lots of great comments. But beyond design also think about using the space. Don’t set it up so no one has a good view of the tv if this is your main tv space. Couches facing one another means no one gets a good spot for tv.

found a few more layouts for you w/similar sized rooms and FP placement.

I know you said the sofas stay, but is it possible to return the larger one for another loveseat?

Or is it possible to put one of them in another room?

if you put the tv on the other wall, get some black inset blinds for the windows if you're worried about glare.

Look at all of these options and see if any of these will work. (don't focus so much on the style used, just look at placement, rug, tables, and how they filled the sides of the fireplace)

you could easily do something like this.

notice the window, the drapes and how they just did art on the sides of the fireplace. your tv would still be mounted above FP.

reverse this to match your layout:

Bought wrong sofas. Gah. We’ve had for over a year, so no returning. :( They don’t fit downstairs, either. I’ve thought about moving them too. :(

We do want to be able to see the tv comfortably so that’s my only concern with sofas facing each other. My husband does not like the idea of them being across from each other because tv viewing would not be comfortable. I could do without a tv entirely but my husband and toddler would never have it! The struggle is real.

But then embrace it. We have a tv in our great room and I never wanted one but it is what it is and to be honest we do love all being together watching a movie. No matter what feedback you get if it doesn’t allow you to use the room as you need it to it isn’t helpful for your situation.

what if you did smaller one where big one is now, and moved the bigger one w/back to windows? put tv on wall. Would that work? (and if they are the same size, try that configuration. ) get yourself some blackout blinds (not curtains).

Boost your plant in the corner up by placing it on some type of pedestal.

That "hot spot" from the lamp on the corner of the fireplace is distracting. Perhaps the lamp is too low, or perhaps next to the wood frame chair would be a better location for it.

I think that is the best arrangement. Resist the temptation to load more stuff into the room - it looks full already. You could stack a couple of small framed photos or art on the walls either side of the fireplace to decorate those walls, instead of filling the space with the plants.

Don't be embarrassed by the use of your old TV stand - that is a good use for it; your furnishings need to be functional for you!

@raee I wonder what size frames. Colour of frames?!

keri, you could go with black, to play off the black fireplace surround (this would be the most classic look); a stone gray to match the fireplace; white, to echo the woodwork (which I don't think would work as well); or even a color that works well with the wall if you want to introduce a touch of color, say, a blue or green - I can't really suggest specifically since I know that my computer doesn't render colors from here accurately.

Size - I would think no more than 1/4 the size of the black fireplace opening or 1/3 the width of the wall or so. You could try cutting some poster board or paper to a few standard frame sizes to tack up to try out - or buy a couple of cheap frames.
