Need input on breakfast room chairs

4 years ago

Just got a new table for our breakfast room and am undecided about the chairs. I am looking at these two options which I photoshopped into the space (A & B in pics below). What do you all think? I’m open to any other suggestions as well. They do need to have a bit of a gray in the wood to blend in with the table and I need to be able to customize the fabric.

Ignore the long bowl on table which will be replaced and the little teapot lamps :)

    I will order the chairs today (A-narrow ones).

    @Flo Mangan....Now THAT is important information about the curved chairs (the fact that they’re difficult to move around due to the curve. Would have not even thought about that, but looking at them it’s totally obvious now how that could be an issue. Thanks! I now get NO notifications via email and virtually none on the app or in my browser. Ridiculous. It’s absolutely impossible to follow any threads now.

    @dsimber....thank you.

    @Amanda Smith...thanks

    @Val B..... I had considered the chairs with the round backs (I think they’re really nice), but don’t really care for them for this specific purpose (dining room table). Agree, there are a LOT of straight lines. Probably should have had windows with no grills....but that would have created a bird graveyard (the grills do help keep the birds from hitting the windows a bit).

    @Design Interior South.....help me when I focus on the end chairs! Waiting till the other chairs arrive.

    @loudon1.....Thanks!

    @ladma....thanks!

    @zazfuzzroc.....I’m loving the table as well....even nicer in person. Slipcovered chairs are an option or maybe just a fully upholstered chair.

    @Livingroom....Thank you!

    @niccidhg..... I REALLY like the shape and style of the Avingnon chair! Thanks for that!

    @shivece....Thanks....I agree with you a bit that A is predictable, but the curvy ones just feel like too much chair for the room. We’ll see what I do with the end chairs to add a little flair.

    @Jilly....Thanks! I like that it appears homey....exactly what I’m going for.

    @Jeanne J....I had thought about turning the table (we actually did that when putting in the leaves of our previous table), but the fixture is attached to the ceiling with a long metal backplate and would be a bit of a nuisance to rotate.

    Just wanted to add that I have ZERO confidence that anyone will get notified about this post.

    Well....this is like a miracle :) I did see a notification on my app and browser, but no email notification. I guess we have to shame “them” into it.

    I ordered the chairs.....mid APRIL!! Good things come to those who wait?

  • 4 years ago

    @dsimber....I somehow always misread your name as “dismember” :)

  • 4 years ago

    They will be beautiful. 🙂

    Yikes, nidnay! 😱 Someone else once wrote it that way! When I quickly replied with a joke about it, another poster reassured me that she had (correctly) read it as “nvimber, dsimber...” December! It is a reference to my first initial and last name, but gives me a little anonymity. Might not be worth the risk of that association, so maybe I should change it?? especially since I have since added my photo. 🙄 What do you think? Should I change it to simmerd like my former school password? or use dsimmer? or d_simmer? Shall we vote??? 😝

    clarification: I see your notification when I click on my bell icon. I think I get everyone’s that way...except for responses to my own. Before that changed, I was always so excited to see that someone had posted on my thread! Now I have to remember to open my thread to know.

    @dsimber....haha....I vote you keep it.....you’ll always be remembered (ha.....not dismembered).

    @Beth H. : computer autocorrects nidnay as “kidney” among other things :) (hope all is well with you Beth)

    Well I’d rather be a kidney than dismembered!!!

    @Nidnay I thought of you today. I went to an appointment at a home and........they had a scullery!!! I actually gave a chuckle. The lady probably thought I was deranged. It took me by surprise. She even used the word "scullery" as we walked into the space!

    Molly......Well, I THINK I’ve picked something. The sample has actually been sitting in there for a year. I just have to get around to ordering it. Have to keep it simple because of all the machinery on the counters.

  • 4 years ago

    Great! I’m sure it will look beautiful and be functional.

  • 4 years ago

    Do we get a peek? :D

    Awwww....come on Nidnay, we need some kinda thrill..., being stuck inside all this time. LOL

  • 4 years ago

    I'm teasing, but looking forward to it. ;)

    Any idea what the ETA is on your chairs? Have you given more thought to your choice of end chairs?

    Lol inquiring minds want to know... :D

  • 4 years ago

    @zazfuzzroc... Crazy about the chairs.....mid April before they arrive!

    For the end chairs, I really liked the ones that @niccidhg posted a little further back in the thread (the blue one). So, something similar to that in an appropriate fabric. But I will have to wait until the side chairs arrive so I can see how they look in the space before I make a final decision.

    Ha....I really like the room WITHOUT the chairs....nice and clean looking...not practical though eating standing up (although you burn more calories that way!).

  • 4 years ago

    This tile really made me think of you @Nidnay

    Oh, wow, the new chairs look fantastic!

    I like your mock-up, the end chairs look like they were made for the room. I just want to sit in there and linger after dinner, and coffee with dessert. (What are we having?) 😁

    Beautiful room. I really like the proposed end chairs. I’m coming for dinner too-I’ve had my vaccines, so I am good to travel (ha, ha). I just love your house. I am so happy for you that you had such a gorgeous place to hunker down during the pandemic. Kim

    Yowza! Looking good Nidnay! 😍🥰 It's beautiful, goes with everything else you post...as in, beautiful. :)

    It kinda gives me an idea what mine will look like, on a smaller scale (my table is not that big) and with round Louis chairs. I really love it... thank you for sharing.

    I'm getting no Houzz updates on my page, I almost missed this! Grrrr! :(

    Gorgeous chairs ( and room). Apparently I will be the lone dissenter for the end chairs. Yes they are lovely and soften the look. However they block the passage to the other side of the table. I would buy two more chairs like the ones you already have and only put them at the table when needed.

    Just catching up here...stunning home you have...someplace warm year round? Those windows are amazing, but sadly not for Nova Scotia!

    Good pick on the main chairs...proposed end chairs feel a little heavy and overdone. Maybe something more graceful? Hard to pick because I suspect anything looks good in your house!

    Nidnay, are your wall sconce lanterns in the breakfast room, above your foyer stair landing and outside, flanking your front door , from the same manufacturer ? I would really appreciate any info. you could share on those. You’ve always been such a sweetheart in sharing, with ALL those who ask, about products you’ve used. Your style is so beautiful, I guess we all want a little piece of Nidnay’s “ look”. 🤗

    Thanks for the feedback ladies! Appreciate the pros and cons. I’m contemplating....the end chairs are ridiculously expensive, so have to be sure about them if I decide to make the purchase. My daughter hates them :) but I really do like them (I think) but the price!

    I honestly completely forgot about Easter until you all mentioned it. I’ll be out of town, so no Easter dinner sitting at my new table. You all will have to feast without me....no dribbling on the new upholstery!

    @zazfuzzroc....I never receive updates anymore either.

    @niccidhg...The breakfast room sconces are the same style as all the exterior ones we installed. They have a bunch of different sizes. Savoy House. They only came in seeded glass (so I replaced all the glass with clear and the breakfast room ones I just removed the glass altogether. The stairwell pocket lantern is Savoy House as well....I liked the seeded glass in that one so kept it as is.

    With big price tag on host chairs, I think you can do better. Watch they have room to get under table too. These big chairs look great at but hard to slide and move plus greasy hands on that upholstery would make me nervous. So good you are thinking hard!

    Thanks so much, Nidnay !

  • 4 years ago

    @Flo Mangan...haha....we are on the same page regarding greasy hands and moving the chairs!

  • 3 years ago

    Nidnay, I purchased end chairs like the ones in your photo. white performance fabric. many stores have them - i purchased ones that are heavy and were expensive. they got dirty quickly from heels rubbing on the fabric and hand marks. My couches with non-performance fabric (cotton linen mix) have held up much better.
