As long as the pencil is “thicker” than the mosaic, it’s not a problem.

The pencil definitely stands well above the mosiac tile.

How do you feel about 'shadows' being cast by the thicker tile making the height difference ESPECIALLY noticeable?

SJ McCarthy - the pencil will be much taller than the tile on either side of the tile. That is why I’m not sure of it will be noticeable. It isn’t this tile, but it is the same idea.

I don't understand the problem. This is how this situation is dealt with all the time.

Thanks catbuilder. My GC thinks I will not be happy with the finished product even with a pencil dividing the 2 different height tiles.

Is it possible your tile installer is trying to dissuade you from the mosaic tile insert because he doesn’t know how or doesn’t like to install it? Get samples of all three tiles and do a mock-up if you’re not sure.
